Hello there
Hello there
Greetings and hello from Somerset
I'm not new to the world of RC I have built a couple of kits over the past decade, most recent being a Tamiya 1/14 truck during the lockdowns, however I am new to the world of RC tanks, and have just purchased a 1/16 Heng Long Challenger as RC tanks have long fascinated me, but the times I've looked in the past it was mostly Tamiya offerings which were way outside of my budget, so I'm pleased to see that there are manufacturers such as HL who are offering more budget conscious ways to get into the hobby these days.
I eagerly look forward to learning more about all the upgrade options and fixes that can be done in the coming days and weeks as I get out and play.

Re: Hello there
Welcome to the forum Curgenven. The Challenger has it's own build section if you haven't found it yet: viewforum.php?f=156. Many threads here talk about the Tamiya verses other kits price/value. I have two that were exceptional fun to build and well worth the investments (Pershing and Tiger I). Have two Shermans that were among Tamiya's first kits in 16th armor (I believe the molds were 1973-74). Both of the kits were used for their suspensions and electrics, and ended up supplying parts for 4 builds.
At any rate welcome aboard and fire away any questions you might have.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada!
HL tanks have come a long way since their start when they were a very distant second (3rd 4th?) from Tamiya. The electronics are getting very sophisticated and the bunny-hopping hare-trigger (yes, I wrote that...) controls are gone. You will enjoy the driveability. Pics always welcome!

Re: Hello there
Hello and welcome from Argyll and Bute. As ECAM has indicated to you there is a dedicated help line for those with Challenger 2 models. The Challenger is my favourite tank. I also have three Tamiya based tanks, a Tiger 1, and a Leopard 1. One was a £15 at at a car boot sale, one of the Leopards is now 34 years old, and was bought as a Christmas present by my wife. The second was bought as a project. All of the older models give good value for money (in my opinion) if you can find an older one with the metal chassis, and torsion bar suspension. Both of the Leopards are from 1977. Heng Long give good value for money, and with a bit of work, can be made into very good models.

Re: Hello there
Welcome from the colonies, Curgenven. The far less expensive AFVs by Heng Long, Taigen/Torro, and more have been around for a couple decades. And it's a great time for selection, with even more coming. I am currently updating an older HengLong Challenger 2 in NATO colors, hoping to keep costs low (although I have already used up some $US for the new MFU and a new turret rotation motor). If you bought a recent production HengLong Challenger 2, you have these updates at low cost and no hassles. Meter rat (just above here) is your man for the Challenger 2 and other modern AFVs (as well as, ahem, tips on good liquid refreshment). Do check out viewforum.php?f=156
