Difference is Volvo have a good gearbox even with the modern automatics. MAN doesn’t there is a delay on gear changes, even in manual mode

I am old enough to remember the MAN Cab when it had a column gear change and yes it was B awful although it had one of the roomiest cabs I have ever driven whereas the Volvo F88 of the same generaion had one of the sweetest range changes with one of the smallest sleeper cabs in Europe
The last Volvo I drove before retiring was an FH12 it finally got the mixture right.
Everyone says Ahh the good old days well for lorry drivers it was, Log books not tachographs, no speed limiters a legal 60 mph limit upto and including 32 tons and much longer hours available, London to Glasgow well Airdrie with a break at Tebay usually arrived at the truck stop with an hour in hand.

Airdrie is one of the friendliest towns I have been to in the UK, For Truck drivers it had a brilliant load clearing office where drivers could go in and get free coffee and a decent (ie Well paying) back load and sleepers to support steel bar backloads,
Just outside of town was a gated truck park with 24 hr guards and a very nice cafe across the road,
The location between the A7 and the M8 made it ideal for Glasgow/Edinburgh and north.
The police were friendly and helpful, They directed me to an all night bar for instance ,
I liked the town so much that I joined the Airdrionian supporters club.

Which colour for cab? Some sort of Nato green? British green? An olive drab?

Edit: I forgot the desert paint job option.

I would go with a full nato green respray. I’m not sure a green chassis with a dhl yellow can blends in to well

I have no idea why, but I went for Umbrol Black Green. I have ordered two spray cans of Ral 6012... as my first ever attempt at airbrushing was hitting 'why has this damn thing stopped working...' snags.

Managed to figure it out. So as it's all a learning curve project, and that the good ol' spray cans aint arrived yet... I kept going with the airbrush.

Just reassembled it there, to see how it looks...

Not 100% happy with my coverage... can I pass slight streaks off as detail?!?

I'll have a go at adding some more (proper) detailing and weathering when I get a chance.

Coverage problems are not showing up in the photos (as least to my, ahem, eyesight). I would bet that when you weather the truck, a touch of uneven coverage will be to good effect. Nonetheless, I confess to sometimes using a spray bomb (generally for a metal etching primer) even though I first used an airbrush in 1971.

six things that helped me with airbrushing: 1) always using an appropriate primer; 2) acrylics; 3) thinning more than I would expect; 4) a shop compressor; 5) disassembling and cleaning the airbrush with every paint change, even if immediate; 6) flat paints (in the rare instances I need gloss, I use a clear lacquer spray can after the base coat is finished)

Good tips/advice.

I used a can of etch primer I already had. Water based Acrylic for top coat.

I thought I was over thinning it too, and using IPA. I'm not sure if it was evaporating too quickly at the nozzle and blocking it quicker. I had some paint and IPA in a mixing jar already... and added some water for that coat there. I may just thin with water totally next time.

I have a 100L compressor in the garage, but it's a bit chilly up here atm. At least I can spray quietly inside with the cordless one(which I felt in my virgin experience of airbrushing, worked well).
