Hi Doc, That is because those are Swedish not British, The British army have never run a rig like that to my knowledge, As I said earlier the present truck is their first COE with an Oshkosh body before that they were conventionals, Thorneycrofts, Scammels etc.
During and immediately after WW 2 Diamond Ts hauled a drawbar transporter trailer. Later trailers were Dysons or Kings but I have not kept up with recent equipment used by the Army.
By the by on my two tours in Germany most British Army trucks and cars were left hand drive it was only the early and specialist vehicles that were right hand drive.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

With the man cab of that type the raf use them as transporters, I have seen them around, but they are usually white with the raf marking. I have also seen the odd on in army colours pulling a standard road haulage low loader, couldn’t tell you what it carries because they are usually empty. But it’s not big enough for a challenger

The trailer used looks like either a kings triple or a kings 4 axel low loader, standard Swaneck type that you would have seen going up and down the m1 pulling plant machinery, which reminds me I have seen an army green MAN TGX generation 2 like the cab you have there on the a1m with jcb diggers on. Standard kings 3 axel low loader. Anything bigger than plant machinery or recon tanks would require the army or private contractors specialist equipment because of the size and weight. A standard MAN TGX 6x4x2 just wouldn’t cut it

That particular one with its 440 bhp engine would struggle up hill with a 20 ton load, let alone a 60 ton tank. I’m a truck driver and I have driven that truck so trust me, I know

Yeah, i'd bought that one as a test(it was the cheapest).

There are Scania ones that may pass as an R650 V8 from a distance.

I've already noticed the front axle on the B36 will need widened slightly... if I want steering of course. 🤔

As Volvo proved with the F86 it is not Horsepower that gets a truck pulling heavy loads up hill, Historicaly Volvo have always been small engined, They got round that with a decent range change gearbox and a well matched Turbo charger,
I spent some time driving Faun 28 tonne 6 wheeler aircraft refuellers in the Army, There were 28 bowsers in the pool one of which was for Avgas to service the Army flight on the base,
There were no Avgas facilities on the airbase so it would go to HQ AAC Detmold once a month to refill the tank, My first trip was supposed to begin with a police escort,
Pulled into the designated layby at Neuss,
The police car arrived, The officer came to the cab and asked how fast could the truck go,
Well it was a beefy straight 6 with a 13 speed constant mesh gearbox and empty it would do 55mph,
This was in the 60/70s so it was a bit of a rocket for the time, what people forget is that tankers are made of very light materials,
90 kph I told the Cop and with that information he got in his Ford Taunus and shot off up the onslip of the Autobahn,
I never saw him again, :lolno:
It's all in the gears,
Sure the truck would do 55 but I needed 15 minutes to get there from a standing start.

Difference is Volvo have a good gearbox even with the modern automatics. MAN doesn’t there is a delay on gear changes, even in manual mode

Considering the army debadge so you wouldn’t know the power the engine it wouldn’t matter. But if you go to big such as a specialist heavy hauler the cab or chassis would be different. But on that current set up you could go up to a 680 v8 6x4
