Re: Broken Heng Long Tiger
As odd as it seems, the spindle moves but the drive wheel stays still, with the spindle moving inside. This seems to imply that the drive sprocket is not turning while the gearbox and motor are moving?

Hey saxondog.
Worked on the Tiger yesterday and would like to share with you what happened
I removed the drive wheel from the main shaft and turned the shaft using a pair of pliers. The shaft turned as you would expect but the gears didn't move so the shaft seemed to have no grip. With the drive wheel back in place and being turned nothing seemed to move other than the wheel. If I ran up the motor then all worked as normal , gears turned , shaft turned and drive wheel turned until some resistance was applied then the shaft started to slip again.
My question is - can the shaft be replaced or is this part of the Gear assy. Is there anyway of securing the shaft ? Confused - how do you think I feel ?
As always your advise would be appreciated.
By the way - love the saying at the bottom of your message

Re: Broken Heng Long Tiger
The gear that is mounted on the final drive shaft is on splines. From what you are saying, the shaft turns, but the gear doesn't. This implies that the splines have stripped, or the gear has slid off them.
The driveshaft can be removed, but your next problem is sourcing the shaft and the gear. Most people sell the complete gearboxes, and often in pairs.
You could try moving the gear along the shaft slightly to see if it re-engages with the splines, though you will need to remove the gearbox, and the sideplate to do this. It's not a difficult job, just remove the 3 screws holding down the gearbox, remove the box (though you may need to remove both gearboxes to gain access).
Then undo the screws on the side of the gearbox, and it will pull away. You can now remove the offending shaft with the gear on it.
Make a note of how much room you have for adjustment before you start, if you move the gear too far it won't line back up.
If all else fails, there are lots of people with spare boxes and parts...and an ad in the wanted section will probably get you the bits that you are after. If that fails, contact Forgebear.
Cheers

Re: Broken Heng Long Tiger
from reading your post it would seem rob is correct these final drive gears have a tendencey to crack
would post a pick if i had any to show but its fairly simple if your running plastic boxes try a metal set
or just replace the offending gear for plastic ones again

Thanks wibblywobbly (love the name) and fv432
I think you're right , I need to look at replacing the gears rather than trying to adjust or remove the drive shaft. I'm not a great modeller I (as you've probably guessed from this post) and dont want to push my luck to much considering I've got further with this than I thought I would.
Is Forgebear someone who can supply parts ? If so can you supply any contact details. E Bay always seems to have spares available or wouldn't you recommend it ?
Thanks for your help and advise
