After 1/16 scale I decided to build something bigger - 1/6 scale - and thought a Bren or Loyd carrier would be a good place to start.
Fortunately a chap in Lincoln had been posting photos of a full restoration on Facebook about a Loyd Carrier Tracked Towing used to tow 6 pdr anti-tank guns and this proved invaluable.
This has taken 2 ½ years as I have made it predominantly in alloy and brass and used approx 1000 nuts and bolt from 1mm up.
Thinking a braking system and differential were beyond my skills I opted to make a dummy diff containing 2 drive shafts/bevel gears from 2x motors/gearboxes.
I only have a few photos of the build as the construction has taken all my time and I didn't have the discipline to keep picking up the camera.
After drawing plans I made a chassis from alloy section bolted together just like the original.
The gearboxes were made using assorted gears from 1/16 scale gearboxes in custom mounts. The tracks were printed using carbon infused nylon filament.
The drive and Idler wheels were turned from solid although the drive teeth were printed using carbon filament and bolted to the wheels.
Initially I printed the suspension but when loaded up with weight I thought there was too much flexing and I fabricated them from alloy.
The 'differential' was again printed, housing bevel gears, thrust washers and bearings. The clamps were later replaced with alloy.
The twin drive shafts ran on bearings linked with uv joints.

Re: Loyd Carrier
Once the chassis and running gear were tested attention turned to the bodywork.
The bodywork supports were fabricated from brass and the panels were made from 0.5mm steel sheet.
The track tensioning copied the original.
The battery was housed in the front tool box and the control unit, speaker along with the motors in the engine bay.
Fitting out then started with the seats, and racking, instrument panels etc. The tow bar assembly was made from brass and alloy

Re: Loyd Carrier
After painting final assembly started.
Numerous fittings and equipment were 3D printed and some were purchased (Rifle and Bren gun etc)
The roof structure was made from 4mm brass tube soldered together.
The sound files were created from videos of the full size version this was based on.
The Polish Armoured Division was chosen for markings, in line with my other models.

I love the build. I am looking forward to a couple planned builds with metals. Totally understand the camera discipline (or lack of - as you mentioned). While you did get some terrific shots, it leaves me wishing there were many times more of the project.
Keep it up!

Hey, this is stunning! The last you showed us, enginepeter, was your 1/16 Cromwell in 2022 (viewtopic.php?t=33799). Now this remarkable build pops up! I am awed by your skill and accomplishment. Bravo!

Re: Loyd Carrier
Great build and well done. Understand issue with not taking photos as you go along, bet you are like a lot of us and get so engrossed don’t think until it’s too late !
Love all the small bits and pieces that just make it look spot on and personally like the plainer finish that’s not over the top.
What’s your next build ?

Thanks for your comments everyone. The next build could be a 6pdr to be towed or a M9 halftrack depending on how the design goes and what technical issues I encounter!
