Re: TamiyaLeopard 2A6 for Regular Use?

Post by zooma »

My HL Leopard build/mod has temporarily stopped for now as I am enjoying spending some time on my HAYA Centurion and Chieftain tanks - but both of my Tamiya Leopards and the Heng Long Leopard are all still being given regular runs.........and so the REGULAR USE comparison continues..........

The Tamiya Leo has the advantage of a 360 degree turret rotation as standard, but my oldest one had obviously been turning its turret more in one direction that the other and had knotted all of the wires that run down from the turret into the lower hull, and this was only detected when I lost the sound !

This twisting of all the wires between the hull and turret fractured the two speaker wires, and (once detected) they were replaced as the knot of wires was unravelled .....and the sound now works as well as it ever did (the Tamiya sound is very good).

This is not a problem that my HL Leo will ever suffer as it does not have the 360 degree turn function (yet....).

When I return to working on my HL Leo again I will fix the barrel pivot to the lower turret base and then mount the barrel elevation/bb fire unit next to it as both need to be realigned every time I change the battery - which partly defeats the convenience of having it in the turret (!!!) but the magnet holding the turret top on works very well and is an idea that I will most definitely be using again.

In spite of the hefty AFV-based reinforcements, the first road wheel's torsion bar mount has given way with the mounting post snapping clean off. But well, it is really, REALLY old plastic...

It was either a new hull, or I could drill out the hull and run a nut and bolt through it.
