M48 AVLB 1:87
M48 AVLB 1:87
Hello, I have been working on this project for a few months now. I will summarize the status of the model right now: I have built several functional models in 1:87 scale over the last eight years, I have always liked tanks, but I had never built one. I was clear that the model had to be heavy in order to move the bridge without losing stability, so the base model had to be made of metal. I chose the M48 1:87 from the Schuco brand. Of this tank I can only use the upper part, I had to design the entire chassis, tracks and wheels in 3D. Right now the tank is already moving by itself. I am doing the first functional tests of the three mechanisms that will move the bridge, so far the feeling is good.

Here you can see the tank with the turret.

The current state of the model is this one, here next to a static HO model from Roco Minitanks.

Your M48 is, indeed, impressive. It seems to run and steer more smoothly than some tanks at much larger scale. Now that I have seen your skillful steering, I will have to set up some "dragon's teeth" and/or Czech tank traps to try some "agility" driving just as you demonstrate. I do hope you will enjoy RCTW and keep showing us more of your handiwork.

Gee-whiz that is really cool.
I need to remind myself to not complain when dealing with fiddly stuff from now on in the 16th size

Almarza: toward the end of the video, I see the hand of some pagan god providing some help, just like "Deus ex Machina" in classical Greek theater.
Based on what I see in the video, you have created a rather amazingly slow and realistic motion, so I'd bet you have more magic up next. How impressive in such a small size!
