Hooben Elephant

Post by John Glover »

Hi fellow tankers. About to purchase a Hooben elephant kit. Any advice as to who has the best purchase price available. I looked at purchasing direct but their website seems to be unsecured which is dangerous. Has any one purchased directly from them. Any help is appreciated .John.

Never order direct. Order from someone who can reliably cancel the order and refund, be it Amazon or aliexpress. IIRC, both has extremely generous refund policies, but both have a time limit cap. Make sure you smash that refund button before it hits that cap. Also make sure you order via either PayPal or credit card as an added layer of protection, but both has hard time limits too.

Hooben is the flakiest of them all and you can't trust them at all. A lot of non deliveries, a lot of very late deliveries, and a handful of successful fulfilled orders.

Also, I assume you've done your research and know their electronics are not the best and will need to be gutted quickly.

Suspension is a massive weakness of these.
DKLM do sell outstanding replacements but those do not fit Aisiatam lowers or Hooben lowers modified to be like the Asiatam lower.
I think the hooben kit itself is much of a muchness but the suspension specifically is awfully flawed.

If you have the fiscal capacity, get the DKLM suspension kit to go with the Hooben lower, and the HL V7.1 board, match made in heaven

MR Bix. They say great minds think a like. Don't know about that as mine is defiantly flawed. I already have the DKLM suspension. Purchased it a few months ago. Collecting parts. Regards John.

I'm just about to start on mine.
Still has the tape on the parts boxes inside the big one!
The DKLM nylon suspension is showing out of stock, and its USD$177 if they did have it which drop-kicks me out of the game anyway :problem:
However, if I do get this thing to roll on stock suspension parts, at least if I sell a body organ on the black market (not the liver-I've rendered that worthless) I can still fit the DKLM set to the Hooben hull.
The repair I made to my mates Elefant was a PITA as his had a modified Asiatam set up in it.
I have an IBU2 with Amp that was got for this in 2017, but Im thinking now that H/L 7.1 might be the better option.

Hi Herman, I will be looking forward to your build. It will along time before get to mine as other tanks to finish and having to redo the deck on my production KT as it was damaged in my move.

Well, at the moment my Hooben Elefant looks like this.
Got it as a already build model from a friend in Germany.
Up to now, I just added a 4 men crew and sprayed it in oxide red.
I do have a TK-7.1 board for it, but need to finish other projects first.

Good Morning!
That is a Smart Looking Beast that you have there, Rob! Your crewman should have had his helmet on inside the crew compartment to keep from cracking his skull on all the non padded metal components in there. John and Herman, Congrats on the New in Box Elephants! I'll be following your Builds closely as I have the Hooben Elephant Kit with Electronics in the To Be Built Closet along with a couple of others on the List.
regards and following along!
