New Member From Texas
Hi, I am from the small town of West, Texas, a little north of Waco. My wife recently passed away after 46 years of marriage and 26 years fighting cancer and I have been told by friends and family to find something that interest me and gets me out of the house, so I have ordered a Henglong Sherman and Panzer IV because I have been fascinated by tanks since I was a kid going to the Waco Fair and Rodeo, I have been going back and forth between RCU, RC Tank Warfare and RC Tank Hobby Squawk Forums, reading the articles and watching Youtube videos. These have not got me out of the house as I have also been sorting bills, life insurance, and health insurance and how they are paid for. So the last 2 days I visited 2 different locations, 1 in Waco and 1 in Dallas that I drove by while taking my wife to doctor's visits etc., never could stop till now as she usually didn't feel good till the last couple of days. 1 is a M60 at the Texas Guard office in Waco and a Sherman at Henry B. Tipple Nat. Aviation Ed. Center in Dallas. I tried to add the pictures but it said they were too big. So thanks for letting me join and take my mind off the situation.

Welcome from Texas. I'm down in a small town outside Austin. Sorry for your loss. My mother recently lost her significant other so I know how it can turn someone's life upside down.
We typically have a tank meeting once a month in the Killeen/Nolanville area with Texas Armor Association, Western Battle Group if you are interested. No pressure and you can "run what ya brung" as they say. We do like to use the infrared battle system on the tanks. The owner of the property is gracious enough for us to use it so we don't litter it with BBs. Plus not many of us actually leave the BB shooters in our tanks. It seems November's battle day may be the last one until like Feb as the holidays tend to mess with folks schedules. I usually bring some unique tanks as I have a ton of them at this point. I brought my T49, Chieftain, T34/76, and my M1128 MGS to the last meet. I'm trying to finish up my Kranvagn to bring it out on the field in Nov.
It's posted on FB if you have a FB account: https://www.facebook.com/events/3814749 ... %22%7D]%7D
Anyway, good luck with the new hobby and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask either here on the forum or in a PM. Even though this is a UK based forum there are all of us colonists, rebels, and yanks here...

Welcome, boothill! The combination of the Sherman and PzKfw. IV is excellent for well-matched openers.
I wish I had magic to make the pain of loss go away. For thirteen years my wife was in decline, a victim of Alzheimer's. Over the years first a now defunct Australian list and for more years RCTW here have given me new-found fun communicating with others all over the world. I know that getting across even part of Texas is quite a trip, but I hope you can soon get to one of the TAA WBG meets. And please do keep us informed here of what you do with the M4 and the PzKfw. IV. Join in the fun.

Boothill Hi, Welcome to the Forum
Never had a Sherman but not completely unaquainted with the Panzer4, If you want help just shout,
We just celebrated our 51st and I guess most couples who have shared each others lives over such a long time worry about what to do when one of you is left behind, Frankly I am dreading it and I hope you can get through it as well as any human being can in such circumstances
You will probably have questions and we certainly have answers, Not sure if our answers will be any use but who knows we just might be of some help

If your Mrs is anything like mine Mr Jarndice , she’d be tapping her foot looking at her watch waiting for us to shuffle off and make their lives easier
Welcome along mate, I’ve been to Texas a fair bit, love the place.
Confident , independent and determined, and they don’t care what others think
We can’t replace your loss but perhaps take your mind off it for a bit here & there will be something at least.

Welcome to the forum boothill from New York. RC tanking has become another form of fun therapy for me. I visited family outside of Austin not too long ago. Glad you're here, ask lots of questions and join in the rowdy banter.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada! And my sincere condolences on your loss. 26 years is a long hard fight.
Nice choice on the rc tanks--two good runners and historically correct foes, too! Planning on keeping them stock or do you have some changes in mind?
To post pics, some folks use a hosting service like Imgur. Others--like me--resize the pic using a drawing program like "paint" that's already on my computer to get the image under 3mb. It's a bit clunky at first, but even an IT neanderthal like me has managed it.
And good on ya for finding some diversions to keep your sanity, and provide some relief from filing forms and the endless pushing of paperwork.
RC tanking--time well wasted!

Mike.
