Things I have been working on...

Post by Tiger6 »

Something that I have been working on with the 'usual suspects' is a V2 launch convoy, based off of the equipment used for Operation Backfire:

So far we have the A-Stoff (Liquid Oxygen) trailer:

The Opel Blitz based B-Stoff (Ethanol) tanker truck:

The 3ton B-Stoff trailer (likely only used for 'Backfire' because of a lack of suitable trucks):

The T-Stoff (Hydrogen Peroxide) Tanker:

Have you 3d modeled all those vehicules?

That's a cool idea. Will you make the V2 too? That would make an impressive display 😯

Yes, all screenshots are from my own Autodesk Fusion files - I have been a Designer for one of those three letter acronym Automotive Consultancies for the better part of the last 25 years, so I had better be good at it by now 8O !

One of my co-conspiritors already has a V2 with an embeded smoke generator and the Vidalwagen - tho we will need to swap out the smoke oil for ultrasonic foggers to avoid getting the local fire brigade called out when we display indoors ;) It does look very impressive right now, even if I cringe at the size of the bill if the fire alarm ever does go off :S

Next jobs are the Meillerwagen, the launch control halftrack, and some smaller trailers - the B-Stoff pumping trailer and the Sodium Permangante trailer. I also need to finish the 16t Strabokran that I started several years ago :silent:
Our long term plan is to have a dedicated display team, who can turn up to 3 or 4 shows per year in the UK and provide demonstations of detailed historical models like this, in an organised and educational way.

If anyone on here in the UK feels like this is something that they want to get involved in, feel free to give me a shout

That explains why they look that great!
I've never been able to get used to Fusion, I stick to Rhino for now, but I'll give the Autodesk software another try!

Any videos of it? Sounds very impressive to see!

Will the trucks be RC or just display models?

The plan is to have the whole lot RC, with the exception of the V2 lifting off. The SS100's and the B-Stoff tanker are already more or less done bar some fine tuning.

On Thursday evening (24-10-24) I was looking at the Fertigungswerk 16 web pages showing these vehicles and the U2. Now I am drooling yet again with respect for your accomplishments. Thank you for the posts of your versions: I am eager to see more.

That is a beautiful project! My grandpa remembered captured V2s launching from White Sands, New Mexico. If the gyroscopes were put in backwards it would send them towards Mexico.
Fantastic job on your part. Borderline amazing that such historic equipment can be replicated.

 we do our best.

There was a lot of warcrimes associated with the V2 programme so some sensitivity is required, modelling the equipment of Operation Backfire feels a little more "fair" as it was more of a science experiment, but lets not forget the horrors of the facilities that built much of the gear involved.
