Weathering metal tracks with white vinegar

Post by percy1510 »

Afternoon guys

I’ve read a lot about weathering metal track by soaking them in white vinegar for a couple of hours. The results look pretty good.

My question is this. If I soak the tracks in vinegar will it damage the track pins? I.e do I need to dismantle the tracks before soaking them or am I safe to dump the whole tracks in the vinegar track pins included?

The chemicals available for weathering the tracks are much stronger than vinegar (because the reaction takes several minutes) and do not damage the pins. So I wouldn't worry about it.

In fact, I always paint the metal tracks in the brown color Matt 160 Enamel from Humbrol.
Later after some outdoor use they will look great (see pic no.2 and 4)
Never used any chemicals.
