Yes, you could use this thread right here and just refer readers to the Electronics section for appropriate posts. Or, perhaps it would be simpler to do all the posts here, but put just one post similarly named in the Electronic section referring readers to here. I guess I am trying to figure out how future readers might access both your 3D build and the electronics work regardless of their primary interest.
As to RC battles, I have almost no knowledge, as no one anywhere near my home is involved in the hobby. The search box, upper right, might help, but I hope someone experienced with RC battles will come along soon.

Re: 3D Printed Boxer CRV build from scratch
I searched "IR Battle Score" and came up with several threads, two that might be worth a look:
viewtopic.php?p=345960&hilit=ir+battle+score#p345960
viewtopic.php?p=263817&hilit=ir+battle+score#p263817
As far as I know they are line of sight. IR emitter and a corresponding receiver on each tank. The Tamiya had a switch that could be set to tank strength. I know there used to be a compatibility issue between makes (Tamiya vs HL/Mato/Taigen), but I think that has been worked out.
Those that do battle and have the insight will be along soon...

I’m an engineer by trade involved in aerospace and having an R-Pi controlled vehicle opens up lots of possibilities for battles, score tracking, and potentially the use of indirect fire. I may have 1 or two thoughts on the subject, maybe even patentable.Ecam wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 12:36 am I searched "IR Battle Score" and came up with several threads, two that might be worth a look:

There is a ton of possibilities, but just getting enough people to battle with the simple system is hard enough. The Tamiya system is the standard everyone uses because it's been around the longest. HL only made their IR hits compatible with Tamiya starting with the TK6.x boards and now with the TK7.x, but they still don't have the same functionality of being able to set the tank as a light, medium, or heavy. It also doesn't slow down the tank as it takes more hits like the Tamiya. I would say most people battling in the US right now are using HL tanks which have basically zero options. Telling them a battle requires an Arduino, TCB, or other fancy tank board with a bunch of new features would simply mean no one does it. That means no one shows up. Even when folks battled in Virginia before it shut down, they found that the more rules there were, the less people showed up.omdowcett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 1:16 amI’m an engineer by trade involved in aerospace and having an R-Pi controlled vehicle opens up lots of possibilities for battles, score tracking, and potentially the use of indirect fire. Clark actually just announced a new battle system for his boards which looked like it had some central system that tracked results. It sounds really interesting, but I would never get the people in my club to use it because they wouldn't put out the extra money for Clark boards.

My thought was more of if the vehicle controller is a Pi or Arduino receiving commands over a WiFi network instead of legacy radio controllers. My idea came from seeing a video, like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8Y0QL_R7W0 of an indoor battle at a convention years ago where wifi control might be more feasible. **shrug** Who knows if it's actually doable or nottankme wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 9:13 pmThere is a ton of possibilities, but just getting enough people to battle with the simple system is hard enough.
