Ecam, were those "top loading" axles to allow for more clearance and reduced driveshaft angle? Just a guess...

I'm familiar with the 1950-80s M35 Deuce and a half, and yes the drive shaft was tucked up high and nearly straight from front to rear. One advantage was adding extra axles needing only an additional driveshaft. Modern Semis have a special center or front tandem diff with an output for the axle behind. The DUKW and CCKW of WWII had two drive shafts (one for each rear axle) heading rearwards and another going to the front. The front/rear (or middle) axle had a pillow block (or bearing) on top for the rear axle's driveshaft to run over the top. But in these the driveshafts are lower, prone to damage and had more u-joint wear because of the increased angles.

OK, there may be a slight delay for the next update as I figure out how to build the rear suspension on the M26. Something like this (don't tell Mr. Tox but this is borrowed from his kit that I need to get off in the mail):



The center "circle" is what rides on the aluminum tubes. Those triangle parts at the bottom are the adjusters to keep the chain in spec. The vertical can on the upper left is the only suspension of the rear axle. The parts are identical side to side so the spring is on the rear on the right and front on the left. The air brake cans and links are at the bottom and outside edges.

Here is my process for just some of this part. Not working on the adjusters until I get the "bridge" sorted.



Found a couple of abandoned kittens near the house probably a couple weeks old. For most of two weeks I have been attempting to give them a chance out in the garage. The scrawny one didn't make it but the bigger one has been doing well. Yesterday I brought it in the house for a couple hours. This morning I found that it had used the litter box for the first time so I brought it in the house this morning. Other than wanting attention and to play all the time (a bit annoying), it seems to like human company. No name yet, but "Monster" is growing on me.

I'll say it even if no one else does, thanks for giving those lil' guys a chance. Sorry that the smallest one didn't make it but you'll have years of good company and affection from 'Monster'

My daughter suggested the name Gremlin (I kind of like it). Seems to be more comfortable on the work bench. Edit 7/29: 13 days in the house and Monster is doing just fine (Gremlin, didn't describe it well enough).



Didn't get as far as I hoped to. It is "haying" season in the area, and I've been busy repairing what the locals tear up. I've worked on three bailers, two rakes and four mowers (some more than once) in the past few weeks. Edit 7/29: Last night I had to repair one of the mowers for the third time (different repair each time). We have a bunch of rocks in the area and in last night's case, the operator was pretty lubricated before he started mowing. He backed the Bush Hog between a couple 6" siamesed trees that he was intending to back over pulling forward he tore the tail wheel from the deck.

Squint a little and I'm sure you'll see where I'm headed.

Unfortunately very little. I have been swamped with non tank projects these days and very little time for my hobbies. The small engine/mower shop that I worked part time has closed it's doors (health issues of the owner). Local folks have been bringing their projects to me. Mowing season is about finished, but wood splitters are in season. Soon I will get back to my hobby projects...

This one should finish up tomorrow as long as the parts show up today (six years old, very low hours and a failed turbo).
