I spotted that one on Banggood for about €30 euros with two batteries. I snapped one up while they were still stocking and it arrived today. And it's FUN!!!
Here's the driver of my StugIII showing off for his commander...

phpBB [video]

Very zippy, but also fine speed control so you can just drive normally. Front and rear lights, but a -lot- of light leaking all over. Something to sort out when I start tinkering with this one to turn it Wehrmacht.

It comes with the usual gubbins...

Image

...no opening doors tho, but the canvas roof comes off. A reasonable interior and I noticed that all the windows are single units and could probably be popped out to show more of the inside if you wanted.

Image

The hood opens to show the battery.

Image

The bottom is... well... the bottom. Rear-wheel drive, reasonable suspension and as I mentioned quite good proportional steering.

Image

Should be a fun one to "militarize" with a paintjob, some markings and slotted covers for the headlights, maybe some Notek lights.

Something something curiosity, something something ill-adviced felines... Only took about an hour before I got out the screwdriver...

Six screws and the body comes off with little fuss.

Image

The bottom of the front is just snapped on 4 pins and lifts away to show the receiver board. One screw holds that down...

Image

Tidy little board and an actual servo for the steering. The board is marked WPL_D_Mini_RX-V1.2. There's a free port on there, but I have yet to find out what it's for. Front lights come off the one port, rear lights come off a port on the other side of the print. Don't see why you could not splice in a front and rear Notek light on those. The front lights are small SMDs on little prints, the rear lights 3mm white LEDS.

The interior is held in the shell with 3 screws and comes out easily. Front and rear bumper are attached to the shell with screws, which is nice, meaning you don't have to break and glued connections to get them off to strip the chrome.

Image

Will it fit a scratchbuild or 3D printed Kübelwagen shell? Only one way to find out. I might start with a paper model tho. I've got a few of those somewhere on my harddrive...

My Beetle is coming from Banggood at the end of the month,
I have a Tamiya Kubel unboxed except for the tyres which I pirated to fit out my Will And Caths r/c Afrika Corp Kubel,
I wonder if I can get 2 r/c kubels, A European and a Tunisian, Whatever I cannot lose cos I shall at the worst have an r/c WW2 German Army Staff car.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Yeah, first thing that came to my mind was the Tamiya Kubel... but at €80 or more, I think I am going to find a model to print. Or scratchbuild it. I mean... it's a Kubel!! It's a box!

"My Beetle is coming at the end of the month" only it is not, It came this morning :haha:
Nice looker and good value,
Charging the battery then we will see whether it is a mover and shaker.
The instructions are in Japanese although previous experience makes it pretty much self explanatory.

Chinese, but who's counting? ;) The button on the controller under the steering trim is for throttle modes. Push it and if it blinks once it's low speed, push it again and it blinks twice which is high speed. And it rrrreally flies at the high setting. Might even be able to keep up with the Coolbank Stuart... ;D

I did Google for "VW Beetle Wehrmacht" and it gives soooo many nice options. I might buy some more...

A lot of my WW2 German armour is in North African service colours Tiger 1, PZ4, Hanomag 251, Kubel, Flak 88 and a BMW motorbike so adding a VW staff car in desert sand would fit in very nicely.
As I said earlier matching my Tamiya static Kubel against this VW is still the plan and if it is a goer then it looks like I shall be buying another VW :haha:

Thanks Rob1970 that's a lot of useful info in those photos! I've taken some shots of mine stripped down but not yet posted, yours have more detail, so thank you for posting.
pretty sure it will prove helpful to a lot more on here who wish to take a look at the CXD Vw.

I did make contact with CXD and mentioned to them that they could easily adapt the Vw Beetle platform into Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen (as well as upgrade the wheels for this vehicle) They seemed pretty interested....no committment in writing but suggested "I watch this space" !!!!! Would advise any interested parties here to get in touch with them and back that suggestion!
