Changing from Taigen V2 to HL 7.1

Post by LordLudikrous »

Hi, some of you may have read the build log of my Tiger over here viewtopic.php?t=34395 that’s been an ongoing saga for some time now. I’m looking to upgrade the electronics as this tank has the Taigen V2 and its painfully dated in terms of the driving experience.

I’ve looked at the professional grade hobby boards and as nice as they are I just can’t spend that kind of money, so I’m looking to install the Heng Long 7.1 MFU instead and would like guidance on how I need to require things and what, if any, extra bits I might need. I did see another thread on this where someone was asking to do the exact same thing, but the respondents were asking for info about the current electronics and pictures of the boards which never got a response from the OP, so here I am.

The tank is a Taigen Tiger 1 with the 4:1 black steel gearboxes and airsoft with recoil. It is currently hooked up to a Taigen V2 board with a Tiger 1 sound card without a charging port. The upper hull board has the 8 pin connection and the 3 plugs for the turret and rotation motor to plug into (the only soldered wires being the headlights which I don’t use anyway).

I know I’ll need to change the smoker as it won’t be compatible with the 7.1 and that the power switch wires will need changing along with the connections for the gearboxes, but my main concern is how to require the turret and recoil system as that seems a bit trickier.

As always, very grateful for any help you fine folks can provide and I’m happy to share more information if required.

Thanks.

:D Hello, indeed replacing your current turntable with a Heng Long 7-1 will require some small modifications? but nothing too complicated. Replacement of motor connection plugs, Dean type battery plug instead of Tamiya (that's a plus) look at the "Electronics" post of the forum, and Heng Long site in this post, by browsing it , you will find many posts with explanations, there are also tutorials on YouTube, Type Heng Long 7-1 on Google and you will find many videos.

Thanks for your replies, I'll have a look at them. I did try searching the forum but all the terms are so common it refused to do anything.

Oh 8O :haha: know it's i not always easy, attached is a photo of the 7-1 with the different connection marks. The battery socket is of the Dean type, which is more serious than Tam. For getting started, a simple switch M/ Enough, for the motors it is necessary to replace the current plugs (keep the warranty of the board) for the smoker, you can see that the fan has its own output, and the same for the resistance, etc., etc. Read the notations carefully and uses of the different outputs, and little knowledge and method, and time, should you get out of it? and then there is always the forum, in case of problems, there are a lot of competent and helpful members to help.

It's Quite easy most of it is just changing over wire connectors if you can get a board that comes with the wiring that will help a lot save having to source connectors.

LordLudikrous,

How did this project come out on your end? I'm in the process of putting a swap from TorroV3 over to TK7.0. I happened upon a whole kit from Toucan RC that offers quite a package for $85.

https://www.toucanhobby.com/products/hl ... 9612003578

"The Package Includes:
Full Set Cables Converted to TK-7.0 Ver
Remote Controller and TK7.0 Mainboard (Leopard2A6 M1A2 & Sound / Tiger I & T90 Effect)
TK70 Infrared Combating System
Smoke Unit
Speaker"

Now I just need to find a patient resident electronics smarty pants to give me some solid guidance.
