Evening Cruise

Post by Meter rat »

Spent an evening on the last remaining sea going steam powered paddle steamer in the world. Wine food, and stunning scenery, all viewed from a different perspective.

A wonderful evening of good food, company and a cheeky pint or three after. Except for the ribbing I got for being dressed up. 😄

Nice one Mr rat

Was dressing up your punishment for getting another tank  :haha:

Or maybe giving the enemy justification for a new handbag and matching shoes  :haha:

Or, both :haha: :haha:

New hand bags a shoes I can cope with. This was a cruel and significantly unusual punishment. I had to pay for the in laws, who are visiting. 😂😂😂

Ian, I wish I had done that trip when I was in Scotland. Sure, your funds were hurting, but you were having a good time.
Did you take the last two photos after disemarking? (Woof Woof Woof)

Was that Waverley?
A bit of a me me story,
We used to go to the Isle of Wight in the 50s for the Summer holidays we crossed over on a Paddle Steamer,
What caught this 8 year olds eye was the brass plate bolted to a bulkhead which declared the ship had been part of Operation Dynamo (The Dunkirk Evacuation).
Any knowledge of Waverleys wartime history?
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

This Waverley is a replacement, built in 1946, to replace the PS Waverley that, that was requisitioned as a mine sweeper, but was sunk in 1940 by bombs, while evacuating troops from Dunkirk. 400 crew and troops lost their lives.

The sound is like a heartbeat. And those beautiful cranks and oilers put on a mesmerizing show, even mesmerizing in your video.
