Good morning,
I would like some advice, suggestions, if you would like? concerning the painting of my Sherman, in fact and despite reading numerous tutorials (youtube or others) I have a little difficulty understanding? and what's more, this is the part that I don't master at all. Currently I have applied (Bomb) a Drab olive green, following the advice of several members, but I would like to lighten or darken certain parts? with oil paints, but I don't really know which colors are useful for this? and when I see certain achievements on this forum?? I admire you, thank you in advance for any advice you may have.

Although the U.S. "Federal Standard" for Olive Drab during WWII was FS34087, as you know, the shades of the color varied greatly. Many paint manufacturers offer hobby paints in a variety of FS3407. Tamiya's XF62 is a bit darker than most other manufacturer's versions. But among many more, there are Testor's Olive Drab, FS34007 (said by to be the most accurate); Vallejo Model Air 71.043; AK Interactive RC026; Gunze Sangyo H304 FS34087 Olive Drab. None of these is a oil paint, if that's the type you seek specifically.

Nowadays I start with a base coat of Vallejo Val74608 Acrylic Polyurethane US Olive Drab in a 200 ml bottle. Then I use various other manufacturer's versions to vary color, especially of appended parts, hoping to create the variety of FS34087 that might have showed up among parts manufactured in various US factories at various times. To vary the tone of the base coat, one can use a filter such as AMig Filter for Olive Drab A.MIG-0814--and many others.

I really like the approach of Craig "Streetsquid" from the DAK Armour group. He posted this excellent tutorial many years ago:

It's a bit of a read because he responds to forum members comments and questions as he proceeds, but his responses offer lots of insight and additional tips.
His use of tube watercolours is what really got my attention, especially their versatility, ability to be pushed and pulled on areas of the tank, and ease of removal should you not like what you're achieving. Plus, the colour combinations are endless. You are not limited to what's on the market from a supplier.
For olive drab, I'd be looking at lighter olive and dark sand tones for streaking and washing. Muddier brownish olive tones for the lower hull areas, plus lots of spot washes and streaks for surface interest.
Streetsquid's tutorial also covers chipping and scratching for high wear areas.
It is a good read and I really the effects I can achieve with his methods.

Salut Jofaur !

Going to start the paint of my M4A3E8 in a few weeks now we have some sun here !

I'am not fan of everything (I think in the second video he should blend the yellow oil more than that but that's just my point of view !). Overall I think those layers techniques look great to break the monotony of the OD. You can also see how he enlight or darken areas, using airbrush, brush, oils, drybrush etc

Bonjour et merci pour les vidėos ,je pense qu’l faut effectivement,regarder attentivement? Mais ne conserver que certaines parties ,et ne pas tomber dans l’excès . J’avoue encore une fois,que c’est vraiment la chose qui m’ennuie le plus, je ne voudrais pas rater cette ētape, lorsque je vois certaines réalisations sur ce forum ? Il y a des artistes du camouflage ,et suis très admiratif .bonne fin semaine

Good morning,
still with my painting problems? I'm wondering? if on the current layer (Olive drab) I ironed a layer of black (same photo) then a light layer of green OD? Would it change anything. Thank you in advance for the opinions.
