New to the forum from Kentucky

Post by Jib »

Hello all!

I’ve been trying to make an account for a while but for some reason my main email got flagged as a spam account, and I couldn’t ask anyone here about it, as it wouldn’t let me because my email had been flagged as a spammer.

I thought I tried an alternate email and it didn’t work, but someone online at Reddit suggested I try again, I did, and it worked, so here I am finally.

My dad had a 1/16 RC Tamiya Tiger II when I was a kid. When he moved away, I kept it, thinking I would get it running again. It sat and collected dust for 30 years, marriage, and three kids. I finally got it out again after he moved back and we got it running again with the help of a local hobby store. It was fun, but it detracked a lot, and only had acceleration, steering, and traverse.

So my wife decided to get me a Taigen M4A3 75 from the local hobby store in 2022 and things just kind of spiraled out of control from there. Lights, smoke, sound, gun smoke, etc was all new to me and super exciting.

Now, in addition to the Tamiya Tiger II and the Taigen M4A3, I have a Torro Tiger II, Taigen Tiger I, a HL Abrams Pro, a TongDe Bradley, and an unbuilt Hooben Mark IV.

I mostly get into updating the hardware a lot, I need to practice painting so I can paint the HL and TD, which have terrible paint jobs compared to the Taigen and Torro. All of my tanks use Elmod MFUs and my HL Abrams is heavily modified with 540 motors, servo based elevation 3s LiPo, and a ton of FPV cameras, among other things. At some point I got really into FPV, but only for tanks, I don’t own any drones. Currently my Torro Tiger II and my Abrams are the only ones with cameras, but it’s just because I haven’t had time to work on the others.

I’m a stay at home dad with one still not in school, so my time to hide in the basement is relatively limited.

I have a YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@kytankguy?si=eJLU6bk21j6n1OVm where I post all of my FPV adventures and some things that I have done to my tanks. I also post a lot on r/rctanks on Reddit as well.

This is what the inside of my Abrams turret looks like now. There are two nano cameras in the dog house, one in the CITV, and an ultra tiny one in the gunners auxiliary site. Not pictured are three ultra tiny cameras in the drivers periscope.

Welcome Afkemp to the forum. A terrific first post. Hope you kept dad's Tamiya King Tiger, I'm sure it could be updated and fix the track issues. Looks like you'll fit in around here just fine. A great fleet you have there.

Well! That’s one heck of an introduction. In a very good way. Love the Abrams. The rest are clearly very good as well. You’ll fit right in here. I will definitely be tapping you up for information about the Abrams.
Anyways, welcome from the West Coast of Scotland.
