Road wheel covers

Post by GreyAce »

I have just about finished fitting everything to my leopard 2 pro version winter camo but the road wheel covers are seriously over size and won't fit,how do you guys get around this? What did you do if you had this issue? They just won't fit.

Advice appreciated, what if I got some plastic ones instead?

Some metal ones have a key locator that must be lined up. If not, I use a socket that fits over the cap and bears on the ring and a small hammer to belt them into place .
At least they don’t drop out !

How do you steady them to belt them into place?

I measured the hole they go in it's 10.30mm
The covers diameter that supposed to fit in is 10.50mm

Thats quite alot in all fairness,I use to work at a machine shop and if I was there I'd put them in a lathe but I'm not anymore, but I don't think they will tap in without causing damage to the tank.

They are slightly tapered too
Just eye them up and tap until it’s square then drive it home with a bigger tap !!

Don't you damage the tank though, the swing arms?

I'd rather not fit them than run the risk.
0.2 of a mm is too much.
You could while watching tv run a file around each one in turn till they aren't so tight.
And I'd use a suitably sized strip of square wooden bead between the wheel and chassis before bashing anything.

Yeah buddy that's what I thought ie 0.2 is alot in all fairness, too much,if I had access to a lathe I could sort them out pretty quick,to be honest I had the idea of putting one in a hand drill and set it goin and run a file around it and keep checking with a vernier but certainly at the moment they are miles over size and technically don't really matter anyways.

I had the idea of ordering some plastic ones from aliexpress and paint them black but I don't know if they will be the same size as the steel ones? Interchangeable?.

Sorry, can't help you with that I'm afraid, I've no idea if they are interchangeable.
Although the metal is soft, and possibly will squish together with brute force, I still find it unnerving when I've seen how gears made of the same metal shred.

The important question, what battery do you have?
