Late Tiger I Build

I thought I would start a thread on my Tiger build, my apologies for posting a link to another forum this is only being done as there is too much information to realistically transfer all future posts will be done on this thread so people won’t have to follow the link when they are up to speed on the build

Well March 09 has been and gone and the Tiger is still nowhere near finished we have also moved back to Belgium again since my last post and moved again since then this time only a few miles away to a different house only this time we will be staying hear for a few years, the Tiger has once again been unpacked and work will start again the Tiger is in “workshop 2â€

This is one of the drive sprockets I modified before I left England this I did on Lee Sellers, lathe the cone bolts and modified etch are from Armourtek the small bolt is a 12BA I will post more pictures as the build progresses.

hear are some Armourtek armoured final drive guards fitted to my Mark 1 Tiger along with modified Mark 1 sprockets and hull extensions not quite finished on this picture, for those with keen eyes there is a scratch built front mudguard hook and bracket along with various weld lines.

Hear are some more pictures of the engine deck finally completed this part is a modified Armoutek part with countersunk holes for the square head bolts so they can sit correctly, also notice the casting numbers these where taken from an earlier Tiger as I haven’t got any clear pictures of the Saumur Tiger so this may be changed, also notice the modified Armourtek rear engine grill with mesh, now take a close look at the hinges you will notice the 12ba screws to hold the hinge pins in place. 

Notice the casting numbers on the large snorkel cover.

Removable fuel/water filler caps I made these last year the idea is to use one as a feed for the smoker

The complete engine deck fitted and primed, the main deck is a separate part and can be removed without removing the engine deck


And with all the hatches and vents open, the engine hatch is 90% scratch built though it does have Armourtek hatch stays and modified hook

With the resin HL230 engine dropped into place this may or my not be fitted depending on room when all the electrics and speakers are fitted

Some questions:

Did you buy the cast parts form Armortek one by one, or all together(were they spares or leftovers?)?

Also, glass hull made by you?

Finally, wheels and tracks, do you have a source for them or did you make them?

I would love to build 1/6 scale JP in time. Right now just trying to find parts sources without buying a whole kit for the price of a small car.

Cheers for the response lads but let me tell you trying to keep the detail to the same level as the 1/16 kits is very difficult and parts are just not readily available

Xrad, answer to the first question yes to most, I bought the parts in batches this was down to what I wanted and also what was available at the time Armourtek make more parts than the require for a production run this ensures that all the parts in the kit’s are to first grade standards and parts left over usually sell regardless Tiger being the main market for spare parts.

The main hull (Wane) was supplied by Mark 1 Tanks as was the turret, tracks, wheels and all parts associated with the hull even the gearboxes and motors though this will set you back £1800 which is roughly $3000 and I know you are going to find that a large amount a very good friend is a retired US LT Colonel living in Belgium and explains the costs in the US I also associate with a few Americans who think €3.50 or $5.10 for a beer is extortionate, to make things easier buy a small lathe and a mill unless you have a friend who is an engineer then you are laughing buy a lower hull build the rest out of  alloy and parts you need from Armourtek buy direct but be warned 1/6 is expensive, time consuming and a hard time to transport, give me a few days and I will send you a PM with more details

Rivotcounter,I am still working on my 1/6 Tiger,my control arms are round stock that has been heated and shaped.They run through the hull into a piece on angle with round holes cut for the arms,The end of the arms are tapped for a bolt these bolts are attached to springs anchored into the angle.Could you provide a closer look at your control arms and how they are retained inside the hull? I can see something that looks like a spring but it would be helpfull if you could provide a better picture of this assembly,and any other parts source's I thank-you for your help,Sax
