[WINTER 23-24] Tiger I #822
Re: [WINTER 23-24] Tiger I #822
Beautiful job! Makes me imagine a late winter look with the whitewash being worn off in places. Maybe weeks away from getting scrubbed up for spring.

That looks like it was fun! And to boot, you now have a battle-hardened, winter-toughened T-34.
I wish someone could come up with a black smoke for our tanks: that T-34 would look so menacing belching black smoke out the exhaust against the worn white. It might even be nasty enough for Herman Bix.
Now I wish I had grabbed some of the Mig/Ammo Washable White while I was at the not-so-local hobby store today. I may have to resort to--ghasp--Amazon, as tankme wincingly suggested.

The positive about the Ammo Washable paint is that it's fun to use when you grasp the curve. It doesn't react the same as traditional acrylic chipping with Tamiya XF paints, which is the defacto original method medium.Herr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 3:14 am That looks like it was fun! The negative/positive is that it's infinitely adjustable and promotes constant tinkering. I'm obviously joking this isn't negative. It's 2 days later and I'm still adjusting, just a little damp brush or sponge and it reactivates. But just when I think I'm done it pulls me back in!!!
For sure though I will need to clear coat it before any next steps or weathering. I'm going to use cheap Rustoleum Enamel Matte clear coat for this one since I have a can already open and that the white wash is water based acrylic and the clear is enamel so there shouldn't be any reaction. I plan to use Testor's Dullcote for the Tigger.
Belching black smoke is a super cool idea. I wonder if it's possible?
I'm having a very positive experience with this stuff. I could see it being airbrushed but honestly it really works well with brushing it on, plus it develops cool random patterns and texture.
It's a nice diversion. My plan is to refit/repaint the T34. There are a few glaring issues that it came with. One of which is they attached the commanders copula backwards and the other is the metal antenna stump on the turret top-

So when 822 is done and the spring sprungs, it'll be time to re-green the T34.

The whitish blue is pretty accurate for a clapped out Russian V12. But those HL smokers just can't generate the sheer mosquitoe-clearing volume of the real thang!

If my T-34 could only produce as much smoke as my Panther...ColemanCollector wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 9:11 pm The whitish blue is pretty accurate for a clapped out Russian V12. But those HL smokers just can't generate the sheer mosquitoe-clearing volume of the real thang!

Ok. I had the same issue with mine. The Commanders hatch can be fixed, Buuuuut, you have to carefully separate the plastic lock ring that holds the hatch covers in place. sadly you just can't pull off the whole hatch and re attach it. It takes a stady hand, but can be done.MrChef wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 5:02 pmThe positive about the Ammo Washable paint is that it's fun to use when you grasp the curve. I'll be sure to hit you up for advice for that one thanksairmancurran1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:35 am Ok. I had the same issue with mine. Track Time!!! One of my favorite things to do, Metal or Plastic.

Plastic first-

Rustoleum Flat Grey Primer

Tamiya TS-38 Gun Metal
I'll let em dry overnight then finish spraying tomorrow.
Update-

Tamiya TS-1 Red brown is a perfect starting point to weather these.
The Metal ones I'm going to gun blue another time.

Back to the Tiger!!!
Time to prime the turret-
Rustoleum Flat Red,

Barrel, Rustoleum Flat Grey

Now that I have the primer on I see a few spots to work on.

Coming along! They always look great in one color, even primer. Great work.
