Sahara!
Re: Sah
Read where the early Sherman’s had the same running gear as the M3,
And on doing some further digging there’s conjecture that for 1941 Steven Spielberg specifically wanted the M3 to pay homage to the original Sahara, unable to find one a mock-up was put together out of plywood.
Not really to sure about that but the latest one in the Belushie Sahara seems to tick all the box’s as the real deal ....if not a Sherman built clone.
Personally I love the scenario of Lulubell being the same original tank in all 3 movies regardless of how improbable that would be....lol

Re: Sahara!
There were M3s with new type of bogies. Those two are from Lend-Lease.
Re: Sahara!
There's an M31 in Israel with the M4 bogies, I'd assumed it was from a later refit. Good to know.

Sahara with Bogart is one of my favorites. I wasn’t aware that they did a remake.

Completely different film, it's based on Clive Cussler's book.GiddyupGoJoe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 8:50 pm Sahara with Bogart is one of my favorites. I wasn’t aware that they did a remake.

Re: Sahara!
While this is topical again.
Notice the Sherman bogie's on the M3's are the earlier flat return roller bracket type. Not the later Heng Long/Mato/Taigen type with the arm being up-swept.

M3 from 1995 "Sachara":
The one from Spielberg's "1941" was a mockup builded on Sherman chassis.

Re: Sahara!
The M3 Lee in the Canadian War Museum is reported to have John Belushi's signature (tankograph?), on the inside of the hull door. I vaguely recall reading on an earlier exhibit sign in front of the tank that it was used in the movie "1941", BUT for interior shots only. The current exhibit sign says nothing about that. It has the return rollers directly on top of the bogie units as seen in the post above, and in this youtube clip:

The tank is a runner, but last time my son and I went to their Tank Day 6 or 7 years ago, it was supposed to be driven--but wouldn't start. Waaaaaah! It looks very cool sitting beside their Panther.

The original is one of my favorite WWII movies! Love Humphrey Bogart though...
