for the cannon how did you solve?

elevation, swing & recoil......

My 3 Elefants have the original elevation gearbox. It's not very good but it works.

Windage ( side movement) I never implemented but could be done with a small servo.

I built these models ( or in the case of two of them- rebuilt) more than 40 years ago-
recoil wasn't common back then and I never did it. I'm sure the main gun assembly
could be modified to use a recoil servo controlled by a board like the IBU type.

Off topic did imai build a sherman tank also?

To my knowledge Imai made no 1/16 scale Sherman models. Imai clearly trademarked the center of the hull floor of their models. It would be useful if you had photos. The 1/16 models that I know Imai made or are marked as being molded by Imai are the 1/16 Elefant and a 1/15 PzKw IV.

Always fascinated when one of these shows up. This far down the road they're all pushing 50 years old...

As I thought about this it brought to mind thoughts of a possible loose connection between Imai and Bandai at some point. I don't
know what if any connection between the two existed but they overlapped by offering that 1/15 PzKw IV. As most know
Bandai went on to offer 4 1/15 scale tanks, PzKw IV ( F2), Hummel, StuG IV and Tiger I. Somewhere in the late 1970s I was told that they
were planning a 1/15 Sherman but I don't believe if it ever saw the light of day. I've never seen one. So I'd be really interested in seeing your
Sherman...

I am curious, has the OP of this thread ever posted a followup to his work with this historic model?

I have a NIB Imai Elefant kit that I'm looking to sell. It is missing the instruction booklet and other papaers they originally came with somehow but I can provide a scanned copy electronically to any buyer.
