I could be in for this - a SiG33 on a spare Stug chassis.

Ultimately its about fun & still ending up with a model you are happy with.

How about something like:

- All Plastic tank as base. They are the cheapest including postage.- Wheeled vehicles ok if not a tank.
-Must retain plastic tracks(these of course can be changed later at any stage.)
- Allowed to change gearboxes, drives and idlers to metal. These are generally available and cheap plus add reliability. You might have these in your parts stash already.
- plastic roadwheels to remain ( the annoying painting of the tyres is a test!) no expensive metal roadwheels with removable tyres.
- External accessories like stowage & P/E open. (to encourage creative use of brass etc?)
- Metal suspension arms open as some models come with them even tho fitted with plastic wheels.
- no printed parts unless purely stowage items. (removes the use of complex recoil systems and modification components)
- A winter theme paint finish (well its going to be summer here but winter up north) to set the mood. Good White-wash paint jobs are not easy.
- Stock electronics(stock being the system brand with the tank model) if you use a Tamy, well done, if you use a Hooben or Haya-you might get a clark etc etc.
- Must be WW2 dated '39-45'no what ifs.
- Any conversions must by styrene & sweat, not printed or aftermarket resin like Profeline for example. (encourages built-not bought)

Thoughts ?
for me a bit too restrictive.

- for me it doesnt matter if it is metal or plastic, your own choice (or just what you have)
- printed parts up to the person, if you have a 3D printer, great, use it. if not, too bad, but probably it is possible to make it another way
- winter theme, great, I love it, and everybody will be able to do it
- electronics, just use what you have or want to put in it
- WW2 is always my prefernce, but if anybody wants to join with something else, lets have fun

So, I would end up with:

use a tank or truck you want, preferably WW2.
adjust to your likings to make it cool (but keep it real)
the theme will be winter

A agree with @jee. As I said before, the build should be as open as possible and described in a few words e.g. "winter theme", "desert" or "D-Day" ;)

I like the idea of a Nov. 1 “reveal” just for kicks. I will see what I can set up. “I’ll be back” on Monday (9/25).

I also agree with you.

I'm going for "winter theme" as listed.

Also up for discussion since you mentioned it, Great idea BTW. We should organize Historical Battle builds IE "D-day", Etc. maybe next June? If this one goes over well and others are interested of course.

I would say to start a bit earlier than June to be able to present the results on the 6th of June?

Re: A Winter '23-'24 Group Build: Get Ready

Post by Herr Dr. Professor »

Well, it was obvious over the weekend that we can open up this group build to all vintages because so much of the skill is transferable regardless. So here we go:

INSTRUCTIONS

I. This is a cooperative group build. We will be ready to ask questions and to help others, always respectful of others’ greater or lesser experience, skill level, and financial resources.
II. Start with a Military RC you want to (re)build. The choice of electronics, and suspension are up to you.
III. The type of finish is open, from the way the AFV looked out the factory door to any authentic type of camouflage.
IV. Aftermarket, 3D printed, and scratch-built parts are up to you, but not required.
V. The group build will start on 1 November 2023 and finish on 30 April 2024.
VI. We will try to provide regular updates on our builds with photos. On or before June 6, 2024 we will post "finished" photos.

By October 30 (to give me a day to set it up), please PM me (Herr Dr. Professor) with the information on what Military RC you plan to build[/i][/b].

On November 1 (or if there is some emergency, as soon as possible thereafter) I will set up a group build thread (I welcome moderators' ideas) with a list of the builds. Then I will fire the starting gun (76 mm? 105 mm? 6 mm?). :D Let's have fun, for this is not a race, nor is it a contest; it's a sneaky way for me to pester you all for more help with my zillion questions. :lolno:

Well I for one will not be peer pressured to finish any of my builds...lol. I'll take my ADHD and sit in the corner watching your builds.

I doubt somebody will be punished if the build is not complete in time :D
