Taigen V3 Gearbox

Post by Choobox »

Greetings fellow tankers. I have a Taigen Metal Early Tiger, purchased new in 2019. It’s a great model, but a bit speedy. I would like to slow it down a bit. I have read about the Igarashi motors. Anyone here use them in the Tiger 1? I was also thinking about the new V3 Taigen gearbox. Any info on them? Thanks!

I like the Heng Long dual current gearbox for realistic driving. A quality programmable radio and a quality tank control board also goes a long towards realistic movement if that’s you’re goal.

The radio is stock Taigen, as is the motherboard. It was listed as upgraded electronics.

Taigen makes several gearboxes with different ratios. Checkout their website. They’re in Florida and very helpful over the phone as well.

:) Hello, I am not a gearbox specialist? but our friend Jimster is right and has good advice. For realistic driving? the best is to change the electronics, of the tank and the radio, consult the "electronics" page of this forum. Of course it is a certain investment, but the best solution

What you need to understand is that all the major makers of rc armour are selling most of their product to the toy market,
People like us are with some exceptions a second thought, Not so much Tamiya but you will pay extra for their product,
Little jimmy wants SPEED and more SPEED he will get bored when his tank only runs at a scale 15/25kph and that is why there is a large aftermarket that fills the gap between toy and a realistic tank,
Jimster has made a very good recommendation although he will be the first to tell you it was not a simple changeover but shop around and do bear in mind what fits nicely in one model will not fit in another.
If in doubt we are always here to help.

Thanks guys. I’m reading up on the electronic side of the matter. The tank is equipped with the V3 board. I’m looking at the Radiomaster TX16. Anyone using it with the V3 board?

Something to know about the Taigen V3 board when you choose an aftermarket transmitter/receiver instead of using the stock transmitter is the hull mg on Taigens Panzer 4 with the V3 will not work,
I have yet to hear a good reason why that is but it just is.
So it is quite likely that the Hull mg on your Tiger will not work.
If that is importent to you.
Taigen Florida is the place to find a replacement stock transmitter.

I use a Radiomaster TX16 but I don’t use stock electronics. Most excellent radio and it is almost a hobby in itself. Check out Rad Schuhart’s site; https://radindustries.wordpress.com/

As specified above, the original radios, Taigen, Torro, etc. are "Toy" types and specific dedicated, the V3 plate includes all elements for the proper functioning of the tank, and will only work with its transmitter clean. To use a TX 16, you have to change the whole thing. Look at the Jimster link (Rad's blog) everything is perfectly explained there
