The subject pic is definitely a board in the tow cable crevices. Not all later war panthers had the tube moved to the rear .
My guy is still looking, a victim of having so much material to go through!!!

This was a totally accidental shot of my hinterhalt Panther G. I was trying to just get a ground level shot of that beautiful Panther rear silhouette and I hadn't even noticed all the shadows until someone mentioned it after I posted
