HengLong 1: All Metal Tiger I - how to remove surface rust

Post by Muscleflex »

Hey all,
How do you remove surface rust from the above tank... and also protect it? I'd like to keep it all metal and not paint it.

Assuming it's light surface rust you can go many ways:
Buff with 0000 steel wool.
As above but bathe with any mild acid solution like vinegar, lemon juice, cola, lemon-lime koolaid and work it over with 0000 steel wool and light pressure. Rinse with water. Faster but messier.
If it's very light, a metal polish like Mother's Mag Wheel polish is good.
Once cleaned use a clear coat spray paint in matte or satin, gloss whatever you like.
