you can scale the parts simply in your slicer to the size you want of course before printing

Yup, I do it all the time. The Bambu slicer even allows you to break down parts into objects, move them around, cut holes in them, and then reassemble. That's just what I did with an E100 Krupp turret that I'm adapting to Inkor's E100 lower hull. He includes the Maus type turret with his files, but I wanted the Krupp turret. The Krupp turret STL I bought had the entire turret as one STL. It had to be broken down into printable parts to actually print it. Inkor's turret gear attaches to the bottom of his Maus turret so I cut the ring off his Maus turret and printed it so I could attach it to the lower part of the Krupp turret I printed. I used "negative" cylinders to virtually drill holes in parts of the Krupp turret before printing to make it easier to create a barrel recoil system. I also virtually cut out the elevation pivot mechanism so that it would print as a workable part instead of static.
