Hello all, Looking for some advice on IR upgrades. After playing with the tank I realize that the stock IR system leaves a bit to be desired!!
What upgrades do you all suggest for increased range? I have the Heng Long Panther G.

Re: IR upgrades
Heres a couple of options I have found when reading up on the subject-
https://www.etsy.com/listing/776907412/ ... ceiver-v10
https://dgsselkirk.wixsite.com/dgsmilit ... pgrade-kit
The above need to be installed to your tank but theres also another member on HS that is making Hoods/Shields that can be simply attatched to the stock Heng Long Mushroom.

Re: IR upgrades
There is a Heng Long and a Tamiya version of the LegoDEI receiver (apple). Most of the issues are with the HL apple (mushroom) as it's receiving capabilities are hindered in direct sunlight. The LegoDEI apple is much more responsive to hits and mimic's the Tamiya apple better than the HL one. It's also much cheaper than the Tamiya which was never designed to work with HL electronics. I have the Tamiya version of the LegoDEI apple on a lot of my Clark board tanks and they work well. Putting the HL version of the DEI apple on a Tamiya/Clark/Elmod/ASP/etc will burn it out which is why there are two versions of it. The Tamiya version works on all the aftermarket (non-HL) boards.
For better IR LED performance you would need to install a better IR LED. Usually means soldering a new one in place of the old one. These are used by a bunch of folks:

I have some other IR LEDs at home that work well, but I'm at work so I can't check to see if I have a part number for them.

Mako is not needed for Taigen/Torro anymore as Taigen/Torro has their own Mako type conversion now:Shagnifico wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 1:12 am Mako board?

If it's a HL older model before version 6, then the Mako would be useful.

Re: IR upgrades
The later mako boards are compatible with 6.0, the trouble is finding any.
