Elevation of the gun barrel
Is there a reason why some of you change the barrel lifting motor to a lifting servo?
Just curious is all.

Re: Elevation of the gun barrel
Good question because I'm thinking about adding a servo recoil unit to a future build, and would like to know.

Mostly because we can achieve a more realistic elevation and depression
It’s your tank it’s what you make it

Also it’s easier and cheaper to replace a servo rather than a complete unit

Re: Elevation of the gun barrel
In some models like Mato servo recoil and elevation are stock.
Re: Elevation of the gun barrel
I like the ability to control the speed of the movement. I see so many videos showing rc tank guns jumping up and down in a most unrealistic manner. Aiming required much more finesse and I try to create the illusion of this with a servo.
Re: Elevation of the gun barrel
Servo's consume more power than motors. One must keep in mind that even when a servo holds a position (barrel elevation) it consumes power.

Re: Elevation of the gun barrel
Today I had a go at making an elevation unit using a servo. Some sweary words were used as it did not work. Oh well, not really a failure, more a learning curve.
