King Tiger L/ 68 105mm Gun Barrel

Post by gorehound »

Hi

Not built much in a while but was hoping to do a 'what-if' King Tiger with the proposed L/ 68 105mm Gun Barrel and wondered does anyone know if there is anybody who makes these? I have an old Tamiya KT I want to rebuild and fancied doing something a little different this time. I can do all the other conversion bits I need and have a set of the later KT tracks but the barrel is the sticking point I am afraid. I have looked around at the usual sources but so far nothing :headbang:

Thanks

:) Hello,
if I understand ? Do you want to replace the existing plastic barrel with a metal one? with recoil, because if very old? no existing recoil, it will be necessary to adapt, the mechanics!!!!

Hello Jofaur86

Thank you for the reply. It is a full option King Tiger but been through the wars so needs a full rebuild so should be less painful to adapt.

Hello, would it be nice to have more details on the model? indeed there were several types at Tamiya? the first model 5604, a single motor and gearbox, turret rotation, flash with 2 1:5 volt batteries, no gun recoil, no machine gun, etc. Then the complete 56018, with two DMD electronic modules, Henschel turret, ausdi a static, Porsche turret, that some have managed to transform? but there is a lot of work. If it's the first version, it will cost you more than a new one, with a lot of hassle. It's up to you? personally I did it and prefer not to count, nor the time, nor the money 8O
a picture of the beast? it would be easier to explain

Hi

It is the Full Option version with the two gearboxes and twin MFU units. Built a lot of them over the years so know the costs if you are not careful :P

I have most of the bits now and just purchased the barrel from MK Modelbau as per recommendation from jhamm - thank you for that. Also got some other bits and bobs I needed from there too.

Will hopefully get this started once my current builds are off the bench - 1/14 Scania TCab and Mercedes SLT. I never seem to do easy ones :)

cheers

 OK, so you have everything? too bad for the DMDs, I have two that I could have provided for you for 150 € excluding postage? and depending on your position. Do you have the assembly instructions? Tamiya

Hi Jofaur86

Yes, I have pretty much everything. I am not sure I will use the Tam DMDs though as I would like to try one of the Beier units in a tank as have them for a couple of my trucks and they are great.
I have kept one copy of every Tamiya Instruction book I have had the kits for over the years so the library is good thank you.

cheers
