1/6 rc stuart tank

Post by mrtankman »

help
i am running my 1/6 stuart tank on 2 x 12v graupner 600bb turbo motors! draw around 17 amps each = 30amps total! i am using a lucas 12v 7amp battery to power a heng long tk7.1s!!! problem ... tank cuts out after about 2mins and never works properly after! same with tk6.1s boards too! 3 boards ruined... any ideas? do i need a 12v battery with 30amps not 7amps? cheers md

:) Good evening, I think and unless I am mistaken? it seems that you forgot to go through the "introduce yourself" box, this allows you to get to know yourself better, know your passions and also explore more about your modeling skills

Personally, I think your engines are not suitable for 1/6, hence their high fuel consumption. For 1/6 there are specific motors, well 24 volts each with a battery, and very sturdy speed variators.
For info….

hiya matey
my stuart is only a 21st century 'mainly plastic' stuart tank! it only weighs around 15kg with 12v battery installed! the original stuart motors are similar to the graupner ones but not as fast! they seem to be quite adequate as they are used in the stock model! these motors from 'oddball' are for powering massively heavy (120kg plus) metal tanks me thinks....far too 'heavy duty' for my 'light weight' stuart! the heng long tk7.1s ran perfectly for a few minutes until it cut out! the 2x12v graupners motors draw about 30amps whereas the 12v lucas battery only kicks out 7amps! i am wondering if the battery should be about 30amp to compensate for the motors? i am no expert but it seems logical!! bit reluctant to try it as the tk7.1s is about £70 and a new battery is about £50! already ruined 3 mfu's already (£200) regards md

it is certain that a 7 Amps battery will not be sufficient, now for HS turntables, are you sure that they can support 30 Amps, which imposes a large final stage and cools, the power supply wires, the connectors do they support 30 Amps? :{ 8O

hiya
i am no expert with the 'science' of volts/ohms/amps etc... i know virtually nothing! the heng long tk7.1s has 180amp stamped on it so i think it should be well able to handle the 2 graupner motors which draw around 34 amps between them! and should be able to handle a 12v 30 amp lucas battery!! me thinks?? i know nothing though as i have said!!! regards md

Hello, having a 7 A or 30 A battery is not likely to fry anything, as long as the voltage remains the same, on the other hand I am very surprised that the TK 7 .s can be dissipated as many Amperes, as already said, that would impose an output stage, very powerful and important level size, and ke current wiring will not support this intensity? look on a car, the wire section for 90 A already, do you have a technical sheet on the TK?

hiya
no technical sheet i'm afraid! heng long never provide any sort of 'technical' information with their mfu's! they don't like being contacted either! no 'helpline' as i am aware!!! as i have said 3 tk boards have already been ruined operating these 600bb 12v motors! can't see why? wires and back of board seem ok! no 'blackenend' wires or solder joints etc... tracks run freely so no strain on motors! i am going to try one last time with a brand new tk7.1s and a 12v 30 amp battery! if it happens again i think i will have to sell!!! cheers md
