Obligatory introduction/background post

I had a couple of the 1:35th Tamiya (?) motorised plastic tank kits as a child (I must find them in my parents' loft), have always been interested in making/converting my own RC/motorised/overly complicated vehicles (ranging from cars to submarines and rockets).
When I was a child my vehicles were for Star Wars and GI Joe/Action Force figures (nominally 1:18th scale, but since then the figures have become taller) so I thought I'd continue the trend and am part way through an RC conversion of a cheap generic "1:18th" six-wheeler APC vehicle and in the early stages of a scratch build of a BVs10. Both to be amphibious. My interest is in the functionality rather than being completely correct (though I can feel myself being drawn that way!) and I quite fancy the complexity of the coupling on the BVs10 plus trying to make it work reasonably well off-road.
I have lurked on various tank forums since I started planning my project (>5 years ago) looking at how people do their scratch-builds and conversions and have some card and balsa mock-ups and a range of gearboxes and tracks for my BVs10 build.
The main reason for registering today was to finally ask about tracks - when I first started looking for tracks to suit my build I couldn't find a list detailing the width of the commercially available tracks (i.e. from the various Heng Long models), so ended up creating a spreadsheet to convert from the reported 1:1 sizes of the tracks to 1:16 scale. But I was never particularly happy with this as it assumes that the tracks on the models are accurately scaled down and that the reported 1:1 sizes I found were correct/for the correct version/track type. Probably easier to just ask people if they wouldn't mind reporting how wide the tracks are on different types of tank or just posting a photo alongside a ruler. Equally perhaps such a list already exists somewhere?
I did buy some Tiger 1 tracks, but when measured they are too wide for the scale (620mm 1:1) but when offered up to the mock-up they look fairly good (and wider is better for functionality). I think Panther winter tracks are a bit narrower so I'm thinking of purchasing a set to have a look at, but equally will take any advice anyone has to offer.
P.S. I realise the BVs10 has rubber tracks without links, but the ability to shorten the linked tracks and their availability is why I'm planning this approach unless anyone has any better suggestions.
