Hi. I'm not exactly super new as I created my profile about 5 months ago. But I didn't realize till now that it was required to make a post in this thread. Sorry about that.
Anyways, I've owned a 1/16 RC tank since 2019 and have been upgrading it as more modules and add-ons have become available. I only have one tank as of now (and plan to keep it that way), but it's a full metal Leo with a 7.1 Heng Long board. It's also got some of the more recent upgrades like the cannon smoke and FLW gun turret. I don't do the upgrades myself as I lack the skills, tools, or know-how to do so. Fortunately I have a good friend who does possess all of that and has been more than willing to work on the upgrades I get for my tank over the past 3 years.
Unlike popular opinion among veteran tankers, I really prefer the HL boards over any other option as they are very easy to use/install and have lots of compatible 3rd party add-ons and built-in functions that are plug and play. The control scheme is also very user friendly and intuitive. I'm looking forward to when HL finally releases their cannon stabilizer module so I can install that in my tank as well.

Re: Hello
Welcome, ArchiNov. Most of my tanks are Taigen/Torro, but I have some HengLong, too, as well as a few others. I see advantages to both the HengLong and Taigen electronics, but if HengLong ever gets a better variety of sound (as has Taigen/Torro) that will be a great gain. I wish your friend were nearby here in the US. I learn by reading and asking questions here on RCTW, goofing up, laughing, crying, putting out more money, and eventually working it out.
Re: Hello
Hi Herr Dr. Professor. Yes, I really am glad to have a friend like him. If he wasn't around, I'd have probably been done with the hobby a few years ago as to get a brand new fully upgraded tank at the same level as where mine is now is probably over $1.5k. Admittedly the amount of money I've spent upgrading my tank has probably surpassed that amount since I basically changed the internals and externals one or more times (e.g. upgrading the entire hull from plastic to metal, upgrading the motors and gearbox to the dual current, upgrading the MFU from 6.0 to 6.1S to 7.1, etc). But because I was able to pace out these upgrades over the years, it hasn't been that hard on the wallet.Herr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 2:13 am Welcome, ArchiNov. I actually used to have 3 tanks (Abrams, T-90, Leo). But I soon realized that it wouldn't be a good idea to have multiple tanks because (1) they take up a lot of space, (2) I couldn't upgrade them all to the same level because not all upgrades are available on all tank types, (3) I play alone 99.9% of the time. So I decided to just stick with the Leo since it appeared to have the most upgrades available and have that pimped out to the max.
By the way, have you heard the sounds on the HL 7.0/7.1 boards? They have greatly improved the quality from the previous versions. Not sure if it's as good as a stock Taigen, but I believe since Taigen allows you to customize your sounds, you have infinite possibilities.

(1) You are a poster child for prudent restraint; whereas, I am the billboard face of addiction. See, e.g. viewtopic.php?f=33&t=30720 and scroll down a bit. This accumulation is in addition to (gulp!) a stunning number of O Gauge train cars and engines for the 900 sq. ft. Golden Prairie Railroad, shelves of 1/18 AFVs, airplanes, and figures, 1/16 farm models, and a backlog of static models. Oh, the shame of it all.
(2) I think the wizards here on RCTW could upgrade anything. Those with 3D printers are stunningly adept at making any detail.
(3) Me, too. My RC tanks are mostly shelf queens or even box hermits, but each gets to come out every few years (
) to run about a bit. And when they don't run right (often enough), I go
fixing them.
