Ludwig/Heng Long: Jagdpanzer IV L70 Build Log

Post by BarryC »

I have found a way to get my “mojo” restarted.

I am using the Ludwig: Jagdpanzer IV L70 kit and a highly modified Heng Long Panzer IV Lower.

I have re-positioned the Return Rollers to the late 3 Roller configuration as well as lowering the last Roller and raising the Drive Sprockets. I have also replaced the first two Road Wheels with all Steel Wheels. When I receive the Steel Return Rollers from Tom, I will get them mounted and complete the Return Rollers.
I am using MATO 3:1 Gearboxes designed for their Stug III using Shapeways 3D printed parts designed by Warren to lift the Sprockets into them proper position.

The Ludwig kit is straight forward but does require a lot fitting to ensure it remains square, lots of sanding and filing. The instructions are pictorial and leave some things to best be figured out by the builder. The Mantlet and the matching Hull casting have taken many, many hours to get them to fit together without interference between them. The Barrel mounting also requires the modeler to figure the best way to get the Elevation and Horizontal to work. The main parts are provided but took some extra “off world elixir” to get through. ;)

Here are some pics showing where I am at with the build.

So far, it's "low and slow, mean and clean"! I will be watching quietly, jealously. ;D

Thanks Freddy,

The instructions are not bad but best for the experienced modeller.

Thank you sir!

Your description is exactly why I chose the Jagdpanzer IV.

Hi folks,

The update I was hoping to post last weekend, only a week late! :D

Here are several pics of where the build stands. I will putting it aside to get back to the Abrams before Mr Bix reports me to "Orson" or "The Giant Head"!! :haha:

Had to have some brass details. As the model is of one of the last built the sliding panel where the periscope fits uses individual sections of Angle mounted with bolts.

TAFN, see you over on the Abrams build next.
