Hi yer , I grew up in the 70s / 80s Lots of things of changed how about the number of model shops on the high street . Most of my old regular ones have closed  :( . Must be the electronic age . My dad bourght me and my brother a model kit every Friday , we had to sort of earn it by working on the allotment tho  ::)
What about these:

Glass milk bottles,
The old grey whistle test,
Vinyl singles and records,
The A-Team,  ::)
£1 notes and 1/2p s,
The lack of health and safty issues  :o

Since when do kids listen to parents?

Anyway I wasn't saying the parents cause the kids problems, I'm saying that the world has changed since I was a kid and it's the adults who've changed it.

We live in such a nanny state that kids can't just go out and have fun unless it's something thats been H&S approved, they've got the nessecery insurance and there's an adult there to keep an eye on things.

I think it's a risk assessment problem, and from the kids point of view, not the adults.

For instance, if a kid wants to climb a tree, they should assess their skill in climbing it and the likely consequences of falling out of it. If they don't have the skill, or won't accept the consequences of falling out, then they shouldn't climb it. If they do climb it and succeed, then it's a confidence builder. If they climb it and fall out, it's a lesson learned.

The problem now comes from the belief that when 1 child falls out of the tree, it instantly becomes too dangerous for any child to climb and is probably cut down. OK, I don't wish pain on any child from broken bones or whatever, but if you knew it would hurt if you fell out and you didn't have the skill to climb the tree, you probably shouldn't have climbed it.

Risk to kids now is whether their gameboy battery runs out before they've completed the 894th level.

Makes you wonder if the banks made such stupid decisions because the bankers had led such molly coddled lives.
