Barrel recoil.

Post by jarndice »

Just watched "Patton" On SKY and a tank battle in North Africa showed in close up a German Tank with it's barrel recoiling and THEN firing which presupposes it was a model out of the Heng Long/Taigen school of r/c tanks :lolno:
Not a bad film but like it's subject flawed and certainly incomplete.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Basic law of physics, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Therefore, technically, if there was a perfect balance of mass, and as the shell has further to travel down a gun barrel than the distance of recoil, the shell should leave the end of the barrel just after full recoil. But, the mass of the entire recoilling section of the gun, including any recoil damping devices compared to the mass of the projectile would negate that by at least ten to one. Meaning the shell will leave the barrel before the full recoil action if the barrel length to recoil ratio is lower than the mass ratio, ignoring friction as it is negligible in this scenario.

"Therefore, technically, if there was a perfect balance of mass...the shell will leave the barrel before the full recoil action if the barrel length to recoil ratio is lower than the mass ratio, ignoring friction as it is negligible in this scenario." Does this apply in bathrooms?

Mick and our good Herr Dr.,

I've changed my mind; I'd rather not have a diagram of this! 8O :wtf: :D

Cheers,
Eric.
