Herman!
One of these days, Manufacturers will deliver these things with working Notek and Convoy lights installed. All of us old Modeling codgers will lean back and nod knowingly to one another. ;0)
regards,
Painless

Re: LATE STUG,10PzGREN DIV,MORAVIA 1945
I'm glad in a way they didnt. I would have to have busted it to get it out of the way for the later front plate and zimmerit anyway!
I did a bit of a recovery job on the miliput I had that went pear-shaped on the lower hull.
Made a new stamp ina bigger size, and carefully trimmed all the "biscuit matter" from the sausage of the grey part miliput compound.
Made up a test batch just to see if it was better.
Yes, yes it was.
So, flushed with that success, onto the hull it went.
The new stamp worked better than my old one, and the liberal use of water on the surface of the miliput really made a difference.
Having an epiphany, and understanding its a model of a late war StuG not a ceiling facet of the Cologne Cathedral, aaaaand the fact that I prefer beaten up models, this ersatz zimmerit will do fine.
Not going to get the Atak stuff from Poland, even though its a fine product.Time that got here it would owe me the best part of $100AUD
Better used elsewhere on other projects methinks.
I will do the rest of the required areas in small bits (its not a race) and damage the finish along the way.

"Dad, Dad, there's margarine on your tank."
yip, it's hard to argue against that observation
It's ok Angel, once the 'Marg' is painted it should look ok

Really !!..........ok, gimme 5 and I will try to get pics.Rad_Schuhart wrote:Hey Herr Herman, I applaud your zimmerit! What are you using as a tool? I will update the zimmerit tutorial in my website with your pics!
Wooden dowel hand cut with a razor saw & dressed with a fine hacksaw blade to open the gaps.
Dipped the end in varnish to try to add a bit of durability.
Once dry, I put the recycled Miliput in place, wet the surface and spread it with a wet cocktail stick(a toothpick but slightly bigger) just enough putty to be able to see the grey plastic under it once spread out.
Keeping the surface wet, went to work with the stamp.
I did stop on occasion to brush the stamp out with an old tooth brush to ensure it was clear.
The old stamp I used on my first StuG is next to the new one.
The new stamp is 9mm square, near enough for an Alkett tile for this kid.
When it was close to set, I pressed an old hobby knife into the putty to make the spall cuts.
Thats it.
Certainly not up to near the consistent standard of Atak stuff, but less cost and gives me the option to damage on the fly rather than carefully plan the damage on the raw sheet before gluing in place(like I did with my 111 Panther)
As with anything, practice makes perfect, so I hope that by the time I get the last section on, it will be close to the Atak product !!

Nice work Herman. When I do Miliput zim I roll out thin sheets between damp clingfilm using a rolling pin. Its easy to stick it to the surface of the tank, cut away the excess and go to town with your stamp.
