What progress with the Stug ?

Hi jarndice, not too much so far, I have decided on the Taigen model but I'm finding it a bit difficult to track one down, still gives me time to research and to practice some weathering techniques

Dom is a great dealer but with Brexit you will have difficulty buying product with a value less than Euro160, Fortunately as you will see that will not be a problem with any of the 3 Stug he has for sale

What you need to know about Dave is that if you want something whether it be a PZ111 wheel or the complete Tank if he has not got it he will either get it or point you in the direction where you will get the best deal.
That is why you should talk to him even if his site does not show what you want.

Good information, thanks I'm in no rush, in fact I will probably get some plastic kits in order to practice

The real project is to recreate (as close as possible) his tank, simple as that. And with that in mind what is the best (most accurate/detailed) model to buy.

The answer to your question depends on which model of Stug your father was part of the crew. If we assume it is a G it makes life a lot simpler, otherwise you would have to turn to conversion kits. I am no expert, but I have been learning a little. For instance the Heng Long Stug has typically had mistakes with the radio operator's hatch position, front bolt-on armour, the side escape hatches, engine air intakes and return roller heights. I believe the Taigen has fixed most of these, so it's a good purchase.

Then you need to look at the finer details, such as did it have the Saukopf gun mantlet, concrete armour or remote MG station for the radio operator?

Also consider that there is an affordable new 1/16 Stug static kit from Das Werk which is supposed to have great detailing, from which you can take parts, or attempt a conversion - perhaps not a job for the beginner.
