racing tanks

Post by drakoracer »

Hi everyone, good to meet. New to the forum, and with a tank to show.

My friend and I have been building these racing tanks for a few years now and I wondered if our project is of interest to the community. It’s not a typical scale model tank, so apologies for that. But it is scaled well in dynamic terms, meaning the speed is about right for its size and the tracks and suspension behave as you would expect a full size vehicle to behave, scaled down.

This is mk5 of our build, and we are thinking about crowdfunding if there is interest (we are not there yet, and to be clear, have nothing to sell!).

One thing we did this time is instead of building up the superstructure we designed instead a flat top plate so any superstructure could be added (3D printed!) on top. It weighs about 15kg, but we like to race offroad so added enough horsepower in there for it to wheelie from standstill :)

I am attaching a pic. I uploaded some videos on our rough and ready site here: removed by forum team

What do you think? Ideas and suggestions most welcome.

Though these may be of interest to some, I’m not sure it’s something that will get to much interest here as the larger proportion of us lean toward scale mbt and associated equipment
It’s your tank it’s what you make it

I'm sure there'll be some interest in the tech and materials used to produce your model. They can always prove useful in scratch-building projects.
More pics- and even video clips will help. :D
Oh, yes, and welcome to the Forum, Drako

Thanks both. The URL for the videos was removed, so not sure how to share videos, what is the correct procedure? I am also planning to add photos when I get a chance.

Totally get what you mean about scale models @Exchitedbrute - my friend’s first tank was a steel scale model that weighed something like 50kg and moved very slowly, with DC motors. That was a long time ago now. After we learnt more about electronics and brushless motors, building something inspired by the Hawes and Hawes Ripsaw seemed a fun challenge.

Hello,
I think the link was removed because it leads to a website.
Embed the pictures and videos directly here, then it should be fine.

Right I'm posting an action shot and a couple of CAD screen grabs. I will try to do a short video in a separate post.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but size limits for video is stopping uploads. Maybe these links will work?
