If you click on the pic, Lenny, it will ENLARGE it. This is me blasting away with my son's Lee-Enfield, in Switzerland. (He has enough weaponry to equip a platoon, but the Swiss are relatively laid back about gun ownership, and for good reason: everybody owns one, pretty much, but fatal shootings are as rare as rocking-horse s**te. ). Up here in the Highlands, I have to pay the Police £70 for a licence for my Walther air rifle (and it's the required sub- 13ft lb type... :/ ). ]
Air rifle you say? ;)

Plenty fun, but .303 is getting pricey nowadays and my reloaded brass is getting worn out...

Looks immaculate
The ammo we used in the pics above was manufactured, surprisingly perhaps, in Serbia. :) There's a useful list of firms still making .303 British at the bottom of this article:

That stylish-looking gas-operated beauty requires a full firearms certificate, doesn't it? It's a pain, as it is, having to fill out a 9-page form, provide photographs, character references, and a fair amount of cash even to own a pop gun in Scotland. Even then, I also have to have a gun lock, and a locking security chain attached to the wall, to satisfy Police Scotland requirements. A bigger bang for my .177 bucks would require a gun cabinet attached to the wall. :/

I used to have a Firearm Certificate as well as my Shotgun Licence, proper gun cabinets and ammo safes so wasn't an issue. I sort of gave up live firearms after Dunblane, just didn't feel right. I used to be a Scene of Crime Officer/Police Photographer so was involved.

"pop gun" how very dare you? :haha: Steyr LG110FT competition target rifle which had been modified to bits by a superb custom gunsmith... I regret sellingthis beauty, sad day indeed.

I have had the pleasure of shooting those a lot, thanks to the guys that owned them, and had a lovely Russian sniper rifle with all matching numbers to throw in amongst it which was mine.
The SMLE .303 I had was a very early dated version in full wood with the mag cut off plate, plus a "sporterised" one that was a selected version owned by a NZ Army Armourer for its extreme accuracy & build tolerance's.
The Mosin M1891/30 I had was a gem to shoot and very accurate, even with period optics that matched the rifle (not force-matched as many were)and the tools & covers etc that went with it. Sold to the head Police Arms Officer in Wellington just before I left to come here :(
I also had an SVT-40 with the 1943 dovetail grooves in the receiver which could take a scope mount but I didnt get to fitting it out as I couldnt find an original one at the time that I could afford. That could really put fire down the range and was frightening to be around due to the muzzle brake blast.

(sigh).............. :'( gone.................

:D When I was a kid, we used to fire 'spud' guns, and REAL pop guns. They fired a cork that was attached to the gun by a piece of string. :haha: I became adept, however, at making catapults from 1/4 " sq catapult rubber, selected 'y' shaped tree branches, and the leather tongues of old-style trooser braces.
My Mum's cousin, Jim, (Mum was from Bellshill) was on missing persons for Strathclyde Police for many years. My G-G-Grandfather was a Police Sergeant in Central Glasgow from 1858-1888- a real 'Peeler'. I got his service record from the Mitchell Library. A former sailmaker from Leith, John went up and down the Police ranks like a yoyo. :) . There were several grades of constable in those days, and five grades of sergeant. He occupied all of them at some point or other, but was eventually kicked out for 'being the worse for alcohol; (who wasn't in those days? You couldn't drink the water:haha: )- and 'associating with a brothel keeper'. I think they looked for an excuse to give him his marching orders, as he died a month later of gangrene of the leg- with no support from the authorities. :problem: ...not a leg to stand on. :/
Image A real pop-gun

I was 13 years with Strathclyde Police, many a story to tell, although not on here... ;) The Glasgow Police Museum is worth a visit if you're down this way. ;)

All I’m left with now are Nerf guns, after I sold my lovely AYA sporter (magnum proofed it was…). My Lincoln-Jeffries type BSA .177 was decommissioned as it needed a firearms cert here, and had trigger problems anyway. Mind you, the flywheel Nerfs have full auto firing - probably a bad influence, but my grandchildren can’t get enough of them. What they hate is having to go round collecting the many darts.
Still have my gun cabinet and accessories, though….

An old Lee Enfield, a CLLE built before the SMLE No 1. 2 sets of numbers so I think it was worked on by AJParker with new barrel as it shoots like a dream - or it use to. Failing eyesight mean I need a scope sight to hit the target. Perhaps drilling micro holes using a magnifying glass when making tanks has not helped!
