Just like the Tiger 1 and 2 our DHC2 Beavers had an inertial starter and in the field to save the battery it was often the practise to revert to it to get the 9 cylinder Pratt and Whitney Wasp radial turning,
Having SWUNG the prop of a few light aircraft winding the side mounted handle of the Beavers inertial starter was a much more attractive "proposition" and a lot less hard work.
