Simply put, not impressed!

I'll stick with the Ludwig kit.
Louis has proven (with a little elbow grease) that it will build into a awesome Centurion.

Me neither, but not everyone can handle a Ludwig kit. Depending on price, it will serve many quite well. To achieve speed to market and reduce costs, looks like Tamiya simply upscaled the old 1/25 kit to 1/16 but gave it a aluminum tub and reworked the turret mantlet for elevation with Sheridan parts and electronics. As we can see below, this is 1970s level of details, with thick or molded on handles and straps, crude Jerrycan and those weak tracks... No finesse here. But with some re-work, it can be re-built into a great model, its a good base. Just hope they will sell a static display version of it for something like $200, and i can do the rest with my own electronics. It would be wrong to sell this at the same price as their newer tanks.

I guess the good thing is that an aftermarket company will more than likely take on making metal tracks for the Cent since it's a Tamiya tank. I would agree that some of the details are pretty poor, but that has always been my complaint with Tamiya kits. The detail is poor for what they cost. I see better detail in 1/35 kits than in their 1/16 kits.

Best guess is priced in between Sheridan and Abrams.

Need to see some proper inside shots with type of gearboxes and hull used.

If the suspesion is due cast ie tamiya sherman, it'll be worth it for that. I'd imagine the tamiya will be cheaper than a fully kitted out Ludwig one and whilst somemdetails could be improved upon you're not having to make most of them yourself.

Much as I admire Christian's kits, and they're pretty unique, in fact- they really are hard work. Additionally, the more you add to a basic flatpack, the more the Euros go West (literally) in increasing amounts. If you're in the UK, postal and other charges are also a cumulative deterrent now.
A static Tamiya might indeed be a good starting point, depending on price, and availability.
Really detailed tanks are always a risk when it comes to outdoor antics, whether you battle or not- so that's something else to bear in mind. Again, is it going to perform, or merely adorn? That's the question.
