This is something i've been wondering about for a while now. What colour would a Tiger's (or any other tanks) tow cables be? Would they be left as bare steel, would they be blackened or would the crews just paint the camoflage over them?
Im currently like the idea of them being bare steel to stand out from the tanks paint job, or being blackened, then scuffed to show steel underneath. What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Rik

Hi Rik
I was thinking about painting mine rust?
But I am a complete novice at this, so I am sure someone will be able to give you a more definite answer

Re: Colour of tow cables
Hi,
I can only speak from experiance of modern ones. They are steel in colour, unpainted, however because of the way they are made (and they are usually lightly greased) they pick up dirt and dust quickly which sits in the cableing.
On Models I paint mine black, then dry brush with gun metal. They then go through the same weathering spray as the rest of the tank.
Hope this helps.

Re: Colour of tow cables
some were bare steel others got sprayed in situ when they applied the paint in field, i do mine by painting them a very dark grey, followed by a brown/ red mix ink for the wash ,followed by a drybrush using boltgun metal
