No, the Taigen and HL suspension arms are different. The Taigen arm uses a 3mm shaft that is connected via a set screw. The HL suspension arms have the wheel axle integrated into the suspension arm. I believe the diameter is either 4 or 5mm. It's the same reason the Taigen metal T34 wheels are not compatible with HL suspension arms. The HL wheels are held on by a screw screwed into the end of the axle.

That being the case, would it not be better to print wheels that would fit the Taigen hull since that appears to be the more popular choice. Just a thought. (Or of course both!) ;)

Another possible solution..................make the printed wheels as outers only that can then mate up to the OEM inners(that do all the work anyway) so they look the part but don't reduce durability.
Taking the relevant standard rubber tyres is also a stroke of genius, easy to get and much easier to paint wheels with them removed !

That wouldn't help with Herman's SU-85, though! :haha:

It's easy enough to modify the design to fit Taigen bearings and swing arms. If you or tankme could get me the dimensions of the bearings and their spacing, I could do a Taigen-specific version and print you guys some wheels if you like.

Thanks, you are a gem! It would make sense for Tankme to do that as he is more familiar with the wheel conversion spec on his Taigen tanks - he is guiding me through the process! Ultimately, all we need is bearings of 3mm inside diameter so that we can fit a 3mm stub axle through it..

I've sent a tyre request to Dave at Forgebear asking if he could supply sets of 20 for this conversion. Awaiting his reply but will let you all know asap

I have a Taigen lower to hand that needs a set of "solids" for a Trumpeter 34/76 too :shifty:
Gotta say Mr Raminator..............looks like you've stitched yourself up to do sets of both :/ ............lots of them ;)
While you are at it, best get the all steel wheel (no outer tyres)versions sorted too ..........

I can send you a Taigen wheel combo if you like, nothing like having a real sample to get things right ?

I can try an get a pic or two and some spacing info after work tonight. The track/wheel/idler spacing on all of my Taigens has been adjusted (adding washers or removing material) to make the track path straight. I base the alignment off of the spacing off the drive sprocket since it is the hardest thing to adjust on the T-34 Taigen lower.

Dave is sounding out the provision of tyres, normally only supplied with wheels but we don't need them, do we :D

Just spent the morning replacing Trumpeter polystyrene hinges.l found some 8x10mm brass ones but they look a little clumsy so have cut s couple in two. They now look and feel solid. I've painted them but time will tell if the paint stays in place around the hinge barrels.

So I took some pics of the mounting on the Taigen chassis. First up is showing the alignment with the rear sprocket. I had to use three M3 washers to space the Trumpeter wheel so that the center channel is lined up as well as possible. The three M3 washers measured 2mm on my calipers. The amount of washers can actually vary because the tolerance on the metal suspension arms are different. Some of them need two M3 washers (~1.35mm) to make everything line up and some need three (~2mm). Personally I don't mind using washers for spacers, but some don't like doing that.

The inner hub on the Trumpeter wheel is 7mm as shown below. The hub is through bored to 9mm to accept the 3x9x5mm flanged bearing I showed earlier in the thread. So for that bearing it has a 3mm inner diameter for the wheel shaft, 9mm diameter hole that the bearing fits in (the flange is about 10.5mm in diameter), and the bearing is 5mm high including the flange. The flange is about 1mm high so 4mm of the bearing height is seated in the hub.

So the inner bore is still 9mm all the way to the outside and the inner diameter of the hub where the hub cap fits is 11.5mm
