It figures: too light a touch
Here are two shots of the agitated Russian tank commander available from Canadian RCTW member's https://dgsselkirk.wixsite.com/dgsmilitaryhobby. As I put a final coat of flat finish on mine, I realized that I may have too light a touch. There are at least eight different Vallejo and Tamiya colors on the face. (I lost count and cannot remember any of the mixes anyway.) In the end, I used a touch of oils, with an oil wash over the whole figure. Yet in the photos the figure seems wholly unweathered.

LOL. Russian Tank Commander in a German captured KV-2...
Dean makes some great figures, and your painting skills are envious of many (myself included).

Well, I've just ordered one from foregbear, along with one of Dean's Commonwealth commanders on the strength of this thread. You should get commission Herr Dr lol

Jarlath: "painting skills":
Thanks for you kindness, but I am never satisfied. "Russian Tank Commander in a German captured KV-2..." Not far off at all! This is a "recaptured" KV-2. (It actually did happen during WWII, but I don't have specifics on exact KV-2.) Rad has made me some stencils for painting a slogan celebrating the recapture, and it's next up on the project table after a tiny metal Tiger I and a 1/48 Lancaster. Well, I'll probably get to it during the Lancaster, as I like to keep two or even three projects juggling. That way I can be patient and let paint dry thoroughly.

Lol, yeah, I understand that feeling. Happens with most of my figures too: they look great painted but nowhere near when I take the pics. If it helps I think I get the best results with a dark background and not too much light.

Re: It figures: too light a touch
I think there is still no enought dark and light shades. Figures must have slightly exaggerated shadows and hightlights to make them look good. Painting the face is the most difficult in case of figures.
Here is a great tutorial how to paint faces using only 3 colors of paint and wet palette:

Re: It figures: too light a touch
looks nice but maybe the picture is a bit shaken (not sturred)
nevertheless it will take much time before I can even come close to that

I was lazy and just used the phancy phone for quick pics. I have taken ideas from a number of the tutorials and books, but I still am finding my own way. I do need to go a tad more dramatic on the shde contrasts.
