painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Thank-you for the praise, their is still alot that could go wrong, but I have slowed down and will go step by step. The end result should be very close to what the nine TIGERS would have looked like in Russia feb.1943 just prior to Kharkov and then the Kursk offensive.Grossdeutschland had but one company of nine Tigers with two platoons of 4-TIGERS each and one command tank,I believe they would have been concerned with the mechanical performance and proper numbering. With but a few weeks to train and maintenance these Tigers, and the weather makes me believe that not to much painting was done.

Hey Bran,I started painting tools last night and just could not get it right, but with the clear on I was able to strip the color back off the tools no problem. I will start on the tools again tonight and see how the come out, drop me a line on how the tools work out for you. Also have you noticed our audience is at 1889 views and growing,we better get it right or we will never live it down. And for the viewing group how about posting your tanks? Blake A.K.A.Saxondog

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Sorry,I was called away.I cannot seem to get the metal parts to look worn, and how did you get the wooden handles to have different shades? Now the jacking block worked out with the scoring technique that you told me about, but I am reluctant to try that on the tools.SAX

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
OK mate this is what i did, paint the tool handles wood brown dark brown or a mid brown basically any mid too dark brown color, next take a paint mix of dark-Grey and red-brown 60/40 and paint the metal part of the tools then put a wash of the same color you put through the whole tank over all the tools when its all dry gently dry-brush the tool handles with a bit of desert yellow ( humbrol paints are best for dry-brushing ) and silver for the metal parts on the tools then tone the metal parts down with some brown or rust pastels then around the tools use some black pastel to give a bit of shadow, and there is no need to score the tool handles.
on another note i was shocked to see the damage to your 1/6 tiger and hope you get another as a replacement or at-least your money back, fingers crossed you get things sorted very soon mate, i never really looked at the stats for this thread and i gotta say its very impressive, wonder if we break the two grand mark.................tony.

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Thanks Tony, that clears things up.I will buy the humbrol paints as the local shop does carry them, as far as my 1/6 Scale TIGER VI every thing I have been asked to do by UPS and the vendor I have done. It's up to them to resolve the matter between them selves, then the vendor will compensate me? They cannot replace the tank,or the parts, and UPS will only pay them.Even though I paid all the shipping cost 180.00 and asked for them to insure the shipment in my name this was not done so I can only rely on Legends hobbies sense of fairness. I have not removed the tank from my truck,I took it out to photograph and put it back,it just made me sick. But my 1/16 is taking shape, finished the GUN Barrel which has to be 18mm long for the recoil and airsoft to function properly. That why their are no pictures of the gun or mantel, primered both tonight and will paint tomorrow.note:I saved the grey mix so they should match. Thank for all the help and it will bust 2000,would like to see some others post pictures though.Blake (saxondog).

hi sax.
i"ve been thinking about your tiger and how you must feel, i have studied the pics of your tiger very closely and could definitely rebuild it i know its a long way to send it but even if you sent just the parts that look broken beyond repair it would get you back on track.................cheers tony.

Hi Oz/Sax
I finished the Klear and I decaled it today. They were Peddinghaus decals. Good, but not as good as Tamiyas. However, you cant get a full range of 1/16 scale from Tamiya. I used the Microscale decal solutions for applying them, but it was still tricky applying them over the Zimm and the contours of the turret. Oz, this was some thread you started, nearly 2,000 hits. Brilliant.
So after I get the tools done, its the wash next, followed by the matt varnish, then chipping.
Thanks again boys.

man thats looking good!! as you have zimm on your tiger i would give one final coat of klear over the decals so there is no chance the oil-wash can lift them from the paintwork instead of airbrushing it on just use a paintbrush..............oz
