Hello from the latest newbie

Hi, i’m Les, I’m 66 and I’ve just bought my first radio control tank. It’s a Taigen 1/16 early Tiger 1 in grey camo. All metal except for upper chassis and attachments. It was whilst looking for the correct paint to replace plastic mudguards with metal ones that I stumbled upon this forum. I really wanted a ‘big’ Tiger tank years ago but it had to be metal and detailed accurately and I didn’t think I’d be able to afford it. I spotted this one at Nitrotek at a good price and just couldn’t resist it. I’ll be living on bread and jam for a bit but ...he, he, he, it’s good to be old and irresponsible sometimes. I’ve enjoyed reading through the posts and look forward to taking part.

In reading posts here, I'm surprised you didn't come across reviews, and complaints about Nitrotek. If you had, I'm sure you would have thought twice before buying from them. Still, if you have the tank, and it works, and it's all you expected then can be regarded as a near miracle. Hope it is.
. Sadly, that hasn't been the case for several members.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the bread and jam- maybe treat yourself to some marmalade, as well.
Fingers crossed here for a decent outcome with the tank

Hello and welcome to the forum Les the taigen tiger is a very nice tank for your entry into the rc world wait until you get hooked on this hobby and then you'll be eating bread and jam quite regularly like myself

Good to have you aboard! I have a Taigen Tiger 1, mid version, all metal, with Airsoft unit and recoil. I really like it, but as you will see one thing leads to another and BOOM, not much of the stock internals remain! I really like it and this forum has been crucial to setting it up right and working out the kinks. I can commiserate with you, my Wife now has me on "double secret" probation! Oh well, it's been well worth it! As the old saying goes "better to beg for forgiveness, then to ask for permission"!

Do show us some pictures when you have time...we love to see them. Enjoy your tank!

I’ve enjoyed reading your replies. I didn’t read anything about nitrotek because I bought the tank first and discovered this forum whilst looking for info on the paint Taigen used. The tank was delivered very quickly and works just great and no I don’t work for nitrotek !!. I’ve been getting info on the correct markings and positioning of them on the Tiger 1, also getting hold of a few more ‘metal bits’ to replace the plastic attachments once I’ve got the correct paint. I was looking at the possibility of replacing the Taigen plastic upper chassis with the all metal Mato one but after reading some forum posts it appears that whilst things like the mudguards are interchangeable the upper chassis isn’t quite. My wife lives in a care home and I’ve told her that as a Christmas present I’ll stand in my living room in my underpants with the Tiger 1 switched on and with the phone set up for her to view me and the tank. I’ll have my back to the tank and I’ve told her she can give me directions on where to point tank/turret/gun and when to fire it. I just know she’ll enjoy hearing me yelping ‘cos she was into a bit of s & m. Yeah, I know it’s a really cheapskate present but I am originally from Yorkshire. It’ll put a smile on her face but I promise I will NOT put you all off your food by posting pictures o/k !!. I know what you mean about ‘the bug’, I’ve only just got the Tiger and I’m already trawling e-bay for rc tank adverts. Oh god I hope I don’t find another one I want or I won’t even be having jam on my bread !!.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the rc tank “rabbit hole”. I also have a Taigen Tiger and it’s very enjoyable to detail and customize. Do you have a specific tank you’re trying to recreate or just going freestyle?

I want to make sure the numbers I use don’t clash with reality and the crosses are correctly positioned but other than that I suppose it will be, as you put it, ‘freestyle’. Many years ago I built models with scenery around them and thought about doing that but I got it as a moving model and buying accompanying separate accessories could become never ending. I just want to play with my tank, he he !!. That said I shall be looking at adorning the actual tank with some ‘extra bits’.

A cheapskate from Yorkshire?! Ha ha, you should hear what they say about 'canny' Scots. As it happens, I spent almost ten years of my childhood living in Nidderdale, and so I know all about the peculiarities
you 'Tykes' have.
That said, I've not heard of online S and M with a model tank barrel before- in underpants to boot.
Let's just hope, it gives the trouble and strife the dose of good cheer (but not cheeks) she undoubtedly deserves.
