New Tank tracks have loosened.

Post by jcole134 »

Hello. I'm now the proud owner of a Torro JS-2 Pro Edition Tank and it's almost awesome. I've had it now for a couple of weeks and I have noticed that the Tracks on the one side which are metal seem to have developed some sag. Not much but enough that the one side is flat along the top like when it was fisrt taken out of the box whilst the other side dips between the upper wheels. Is this normal? I'm very new to RC anything.

I’d say it’s normal, tracks and running gear do need to bed in. I feel this is an example of that process.
Plus, JS series tanks in real life had HUGE sagging in the track run,
Google up the subject and behold the classic Soviet baggy tracks !!
I have one of these and I’m going to add a link into both tracks to get the right look
However, after you’ve run yours around, do use the convenience of the track adjustment system built in.
Not as simple as the under hull type but good enough.
I’d go with sag on them just to get the right look

Good afternoon!
If it is just one tracking sagging, check your idler adjuster up front. If it is both, enjoy the authentic looking Sag ( as Herman noted ;o)

Thank you all for your replays. It is only th one and it's not a huge amount of sag. It's just enough to be noticeable lol. The idlers are still in there default position so they're fine. The track probably stretched because I took it over loose dirt which had small brick in ti and some got stuck between the tracks and the drive wheels making them freeze up. I love the weight of this tank and how it feels going over terrain. Now I just need to look at upgrades to make it sound more like a JS-2 and handle more like a tank lol, which is proving harder than I expected.

I have had one now for some time and having adjusted the suspension a couple of times l now park the tank on foam pads placed under the hull between the tracks so as to unload the suspension when not in use. It is heavy and maybe the torsion bars are close to their limit? Great model though, enjoy!

That is a good tip about raising the tank off its suspension while not in use GJ, I use 3x2 blocks which I place under all my tanks with torsion or sprung suspension, it's just enough to keep them off the ground and sitting on their full weight for extended periods of time

Cheers, Lee.

I believe I've figured it out. When not in use and because of the location of the on/off switch I've had the turret gun pointing out to the very side that has the slight track sag. I measured and noticed that my Tank was about 1-1.5mm lower in that side. I have now changed the side the turret gun sticks out to see if that causes the side to balance out over time and balance the track sag.

Do you have a heavy battery that’s on one side of the tank than the other?

Default 2000MaH battery that came with the Tank placed centrally.
