US WW2 LVTs in the Lincolnshire fens . 1947

Post by littletankman »

This will probaly intrest Nick and Herman. I came across two photos in my local paper about the floods in 1947 . It states the army used amphibious tanks to make a barrier for flood defences , near Crowland in Lincolnshire . And lone behold there US LVTs ! Probaly from the Rhine crossing ? I have tryed to look into this and one report says they used turet less WW1 tanks but you can clearly see there LVTs in the pictures . And in another report its stated one sank in the river Welland ? I will try and get the picture posted on here.

So Nick/Herman, I might have a LVT wreck on my doorstep . Although I now roughly the area but not the exact spot were the picts are taken. Hmmm

Ha! Look at that, nice find Andy, by remarkable coincidence I found a photo of a Sherman being used in a flood in Maidenhead, Ill have to post it here when I get home. The LVT is 99% done, i just seem so short of time these days !

Wow there's a blast from the past. Sadly I haven't heard from Andy in years.
